The Last Legion

Oh god, that is incredibly cheesey. I've seen more realism in pure fantasy. But so many good actors! I can't bear to see them appear so foolish. I recently read a book by the author of "The Last Legion". He's also an archeology professor, I believe, but as a writer, even a writer of historical fiction, he's terrible, guilty of every cliche known to man and the kind of romantising of history that is very embarrasing and out of fashion these days. He doesn't writer characters, he writes archetypes. I can't understand his popularity.

The teenage screwball comedy? Is based on "The Decameron", by Giovanni Boccaccio. It's a really strange trailer, but it doesn't look as bad as I was afraid it would. Some of the cheekiness seems to be there, at least, although I doubt it could ever be as naughty as the book, even a 650 year old book.

You really start to feel sorry for all the actors involved in The Last Legion. I really wonder at what point they realised that this will end badly.
I also keep thinking that Uwe Boll has to somehow be involved in the production of the movie. :)

Virgin Territory: Oh, I wasn't aware of that. I've never seen Pier Paolo Pasolini's version but I have a feeling that this one will be very different.
I would really like to see a trailer without voice-over and title cards to get a better feeling what kind of movie this will be. The way it is presented in this trailer version I'm a bit sceptic.

That is exactly what I thought as well. Seriously my first thought was "why did all these stars agree to be in a uwe boll movie" and then I realized he wasn't the one directing. and yet, I still feel he is responsible somehow.

It's definitely a strong contender for the 'Best Uwe Boll movie not directed by Boll' Award. :D

t's now clear that the movie's based on Giovanni Boccaccio's "The Decameron".

Wow, I had forgotten all about that. I read The Decameron in college and I seem to remember hearing at the time that a film was in the works. That was, what? almost 4 years ago?

With that cast, I may not be able to turn my back on The Last Legion. Though I am afraid to watch the trailer at this point **laughs**

Since some movies spend many years in development hell it's entirely likely that it's still the same project.

I definitely appreciate it that you're always willing to give movies a chance but maybe in this case a short look so that you know what to expect isn't the worst idea.
Maybe watching it from DVD on a rainy afternoon during the off-season in the brief period of time before pitchers and catchers return will do. Either to bathe in its cheesiness or to mock it, preferable in like-minded company. ;)

The Last Legion does seem to have dialogue isses, some of those lines were said seriously but made me hold in a little chuckle. I think I'm more annoyed by the man doing the voice over. I think that's what made me feel uncomfortable watching the trailer. You don't get many trailers these days with someone doing a voice over. Take for example the Eragon trailer, no voice overs there. I think it may be best to remix the trailer without it, otherwise it does seem unbelievably cheesy.

Oh yes, I think it's fair to say that The Last Legion has some dialogue issues, among other things. Considering the fact that they usually try to do their best to sell a movie by making a good trailer that tries to hide the weaknesses then this doesn't bode well.

Unfortunately, in my experience, there are still a noticeable amount of trailers that feature a voice-over. But maybe I'm just a little sensitive in that respect because I watch so many of them.

Wow, there are a lot of clips from Borat there. I'm definitely going to see it but I've been kind of trying to avoid all the hype, because I want it to be fresh when I see it in the cinema!

That's a good decision. Once you know that you want to watch a movie I think there's no need to watch further scenes that might spoil the fun.

The hype in this case is really remarkable. All kinds of media outlets report about it. Judging by that it seems as if this will be an extraordinary hit.

Yeah, it does seem like it will do quite well. Which is both good and bad for Sacha Baron Cohen I suppose. Good because he will get more fame and fortune. Bad because the easier he is to recognize, the harder it will be for him to keep doing this kind of thing!

That's the part that I have some difficulties to believe, that all scenes are unstaged. For some of them I have no problem to accept it but sometimes it's hard to believe. Although I have to say that I never read that it is indeed entirely unstaged.

He's already in discussions for his next movie. But he will be another character for that one (I can't remember what it will be).

It's so odd to hear Simon Pegg with an American accent!

You're right! Too bad, but it was probably necessary for the role.
