my mother and i were discussing irony yesterday, and how frequently the term is misused by people. today, i have experienced a perfect example of true irony.
i spent four years pursuing a theatre education degree because, although i love performing, i was not interested in the strife and difficulties that go along with something as unstable and unpredictable as a professional acting career. i just don't love performing THAT much, i guess. plus, i really do love teaching.
i graduated with my BFA in theatre education, and teacher certifications in theatre, english, and public speaking.
100+ resumes and applications to schools later, i have only had 5-6 interviews, and no job offers.
2 auditions later, i have been cast in a paid acting job.
this supposedly "unstable" career has already been more kind to me than my proposed "real" career.
oh, the irony.
