ran into something on my old xanga.
"...I hate watching people indifferently marching to the beat of their own destruction. All they need to do is step out of line, but following the status quo suits them just fine because they might, they just might, have to turn around and go back the way they came, and God forbid that they would turn around and have to face themselves. Or God. Whichever would be worse to them. Both, as is probable. So they keep following this drummer of death, tapping their own little complimentary melody out by the leather of their shoes, and staring at the back of the head of the person in front of them. That person isn't changing step, so why should they? Why do the right thing when the wrong thing is so much easier at the moment? Why risk heightening someone's expectations of you?
Because that's life, dammit. You all know you're supposed to die daily to yourselves. You all know the meaning of His sacrifice. You all know the commitments you've made that you aren't keeping. And you all know that your time is running out. So stop being so fucking complacent, and do the right thing. I don't care how hard it is. I don't care that it'll make things awkward among your friends. I don't care that it's going to take more strength and energy and hardship than you've ever faced before. Guess what: someone took nails through their arms and legs, then suffocated to death. For you.
Stop throwing that away. Stop purposely forgetting it. Stop making excuses. Stop bristling at the thought of being judged by the people around you. They judge your lack of action just as much as they judge any step you take. They don't matter anyway. You'll never have to answer to them for eternity.
Stop reacting to your fear. Leave things behind. Sever ties. Cut the shackles from your wrists and the collars from your necks. Make your way, step by bloody step, fighting everything, clawing tooth and nail, crawling til your fingernails break, to the feet of the person you refuse to face. He would do the same for you. He already did the same for you. Don't spit in his face anymore. Wash it with your tears. You can do it. You can. You can."
felt like a wake-up call when i read it, so i just wanted to share. maybe you can get something out of it, too.
