Work

Maybe a quarter 'til close one day last week. This guy comes up to my register with some small item I don't recall (candy, probably), an pack of two tee shirts (perfectly in tact), and then sets down a wife beater, a rectangle of cardboard, and a tee shirt in a ball that's obviously been worn.

"What's this?" I say.

"4 for $8...OH! I must have accidentally grabbed these two tee shirts instead of the rest of the pack of wife beaters! Can someone go get them for me?" Or something of that nature, although not quite as straight forward as even that.

"What?"

I call over my manager. She says.

"What?"

We deduce that he wants to do the 4 for $8 with two wife beaters from the package he mangled (he didn't even bother to save the UPC or any of the packaging). My manager tells him we don't do that, and he disappears into the store wearing one of the wife beaters and leaving everything else at my register, including his own shirt and the second wife beater. He just abandoned them there and never came back. I figured he just walked away with the new shirt, but I was told he checked out in another lane and ended up paying $8 to walk out with only three of the wife beaters from the package.

Dumbass.

ALSO.

Yesterday I was on my break, and there was this stupid couple and their tiny new little baby that I'm sure they didn't deserve. Seriously, they were so dumb. This was part of their conversation that I overheard.

Mom: "When I was little, I used to think zebras were make-believe."
Dad: "Really? I think I did too." Pause. "What IS a zebra?"

Now normally, I'd have thought anyone who said this was kidding. But nope. Totally serious.

I have to go to work all night again in about 3.5 hours. I'm only there 'til 10:15 tonight instead of 11, so it will be relatively not painful, but it still gives me 7 hours to experience the special joys of humanity. I know I will have more stories. It just feels like one of those days.
