The first quarter of the year is almost up... Politicians are having a field day, and also the media too.
Many have told me that its best to just ignore the issues and focus on something else (like American Idol perhaps?) because once you watch the news or read the papers you'll just get unnecessary stress and anxiety.
I've begged off local news since last year. Why? Too opinonated and very sensational. But recently I've stopped looking at the newspapers. Again, its all too irritating to see.
So why am I writing this? Funny how something one keeps on avoiding always manages to creep up and prod. Yeah. I can't hide from this whole scandal. Its everywhere and its affecting my life.
I was surprised how some college students are starting to get involved. (Bayad din ba kayo? Eh di ba sa La Salle naman kayo nag-aaral? Hehehe. So happy that UST is not YET involved. Pero subukan nyo lang mga taga-Archi... Sige kayo... Pag-graduate nyo wala kayong trabaho...)
I can still remember the whole Erap thing back in 2001, second year Archi.
Is the situation worse now than then? NO.
Is there any CONCRETE proof that GMA is more corrupt than Erap? NO.
Want a new president? Sige! Just make sure you can take the consequences.
What's really disturbing here is that the people who are making a lot of noise are actually those who don't have much at stake.
Businessmen? Politicians? Those in the UPPER tier? Their foundations are solid.
The poor? The squatters? Destitutes? Their mouths are open to anyone who are willing to feed.
The working class? The middle class? The people who make this country work? Patay na.
Yep. They're the ones paying the taxes. They're the ones who are laid off when there is need for downsizing. (Mga taga-Archi, pag patay ang realty and construction sectors natin patay lahat, mag-call center na lang kayo.) They're the ones who are most affected by inflation. They're the ones who get caught up in this whole mess.
My mom was watching the news last Friday, and I overheard an interview with Fr. James Reuter. He said:
"Its just like Alibaba and the Forty Thieves, you remove Alibaba, but the Forty Thieves still remain. Removing the president doesn't end corruption in the government."
Can someone please tell that to Cory?
