xmas eve scare / Leslie lost Annie
Leslie and Annie wanted to go outside so I told Leslie to keep an eye on Annie and they could go play in the courtyard. A while later Leslie comes in to hand me a battery from her remote control car. I tell her to get back out there and watch Annie. A little later I go to check on them because I dont hear anything. I cant see Leslie or Annie. I run over to moms house and Eli says Leslie was over there looking for Annie but he hasnt seen her. I scream Leslies name and see her driving her remote car in the parking lot I ask her where Annie is she said she dosnt know and that shes looking for her. I tell her to get in the house and start screaming for Andrea. I go out to the street and see a tall man walking with her by the store. I run to her and shes happily holding a sucker she got and holding the mans hand. He tells me shes ok and that everythings alright. She had taken her stroller with her babydoll in it and had crossed the street to the little store on the corner. I brought her back home. She had no idea anything was wrong. She was happy and kept patting my cheek because I was crying.
I calmed down and went to talk to Leslie. I didnt know what to say. I wanted to scream and hurt her for loosing her sister and not comming to tell me right away. I couldnt though. In the end its my fault for trusting her to watch Annie and any official person is going to see it that way. I told Leslie where Andrea was, what could have happened to her if that man had not been so nice. Why it scared me soo bad, how I felt that I wouldnt be able to trust her for a while.
Jason says that Leslie will forget the incident ever happened within a week. Hes probably right. Leslie cried a bit and looked upset but honestly I cant tell if its because she was genuinely upset about what happened to Annie or that she got in trouble. I dont know what I can do to get it into her head. Maybe I just have to accept that Leslie dosnt have the mental capabilities that most 9-10 yr olds posess. I cant think of a single other person her age who would have not been upset or worried or scared when she couldnt find Annie. She was just slowly walking down the driveway with her car.
I'm completly confounded and scared by all this. Andreas safe and happy and that is good. But Leslie.. what do I do with her?
