Question: Oh, I Wish I Had . . .

At book club this past Saturday, we watched a trailer for, Once Upon A Time, a new series for the Fall. It looks really incredible. At the end of the trailer I thought, "I wish I could think up such a story." On the way home, started thinking about other stories I wish I would have written. For instance, I just finished reading Divergent by Veronica Roth. Such a great story. I think it is on par with  Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Man, I would love to crawl inside her Ms. Collins' brain. She wrote a brilliant story. And Harry Potter. *sighs* Such a well told story. Great characters. Great world. Just love all of it. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. I mean, Death is the narrator. How clever is that? Now before I ask the question, I want to make it clear. THIS IS NOT ABOUT BEMOANING YOURSELF. I think I have talent. I'm not knocking balls out of the park, but I know I can string words together and create good stories. I know I will get better with time. I enjoy the stories I tell. I think they are unique and clever. And this is not about me wishing I wrote a story that became a world-wide phenomenon. In fact, such thoughts send chills down my back. I don't want people digging in my trash to see what kind of cereal I eat. (If you're wondering, Kashi or Quaker Oat Squares or Shredded Wheat). Nor do I want people hanging on my every word. I think most of what I say is rubbage. This is about appreciating a story, the characters, the writing. This is about saying, "Wow, I wish I had thought of that. How clever. How cool. I bet that would have been so much fun to write." Okay . . .

What book do you wish you would have written?
