As I don't watch TV much less American Idol, I missed this when it aired. Thankfully, I caught it on YouTube the other night.
Mariah Carey performing her song "Fly Like a Bird" live on American Idol Gives Back. For anyone who wonders if she still has the pipes and the chops for live performances of the hallowed nature of her 1995 Madison Square Garden concert, the answer is yesssssss. She still can hit those stellar high notes in the whistle registar and all the rest.
The song, which Mariah co-wrote (like most of her music: a fact many who downplay her contributions to music seem to overlook) is nearly a 2005 update of her hit "Make it Happen" in terms of uplifting tempo and lyrics and gospel influence.
