I guess if I were to sum up the purpose for this livejournal, it would be "because
peteindigital made me". But also "let me tell you about some great music - SOME GREAT MUSIC (let me tell you about it)". The thing is, I like music. A lot. I was idly filling out one of those email/myspace survey/quiz things the other day, and when I came to the question "What means the most to you?" I answered with "family & friends" because isn't that the typical answer for everyone who has even half a heart? But then I added "and music" because it really is true.
I can tell you about different parts of my life based on what I was listening to at the time. Queen's Greatest Hits was every road trip from Brisbane to Rockhampton (or the other way around) that I ever took with my mum and my siblings when I was little. RHCP's Californication was grade ten, more specifically that time I was running around with someone a lot older than me. Radiohead's Amnesiac was grade twelve, out on the front porch at 2am writing bad poetry and sneaking cigarettes. Saint Germain's Tourist was my first year of university, totally lost but struggling to grasp the physics of drama (and careening around in workshops to So Flute like monkeys). Something for Kate's The Official Fiction was 2003 when I'd just gotten my first full-time job and was terrified about what I was doing with my life, driving Sherryn's car around because she'd lost her licence and I didn't have my own car.
The moral of this story is that music makes my world go 'round. Also if I don't start telling Pete about great music when I hear it (instead of him telling me about a band/album and me replying with "I've had that for months..... isn't it great?") then I'll get in big trouble. So hooray for that.
Also, while I am here writing this post, I will also add The List. A couple of years ago when I started downloading full albums like a bandit, I swore to myself that the downloads would be "trial runs" and if I liked the album enough, I would buy it. So... two guesses for whether that plan came to fruition (buckleys, none). I scrolled through my iTunes the other day and wrote out a list of all the albums I have to buy. It's a little overwhelming. You will possibly see me write about these in this lj in the future. Anyway, I went to JB HiFi this morning (Q: If you could marry one store, which would it be?) with the intention of just buying a copy of No Man's Woman (Aussie gents covering female artists; damn, I love a good cover song!) but seeing as I can't seem to walk out of JB without spending less than $100 a trip, I ended up with a handful from The List. I'm proud of myself. It's begun...
