I know why, now. Hadn't really expected he'd ever tell me about it, but...it's not right, what happened, it isn't and were that mage still alive I would make damn sure he got the kill he deserved. This is why they have to be controlled and gotten rid of, they get carried away with their power and use it in ways it shouldn't be and I know there are many more just like him. Who knows what they've done?
Warlocks do...something or other with souls, don't they? I'm not sure how exactly they get them though, or whether they can get one back. There has to be somebody who can, I'll have him dragged back through the fucking Nether kicking and screaming if I have to. He'll have his prey again, I'll make sure of it, I'll bring him the bastard's soul in one of their little rocks.
...and if they can do it, I'll have to see about paying extra to get me another one I've got some interest in. Not for re-killing, and perhaps not to bring back for any real length of time, but...all the same, it depends on who I can find and how good they are.
