A Celestial Legacy 1.4

Mar 06, 2009 19:10

The Queen sat in her chambers. She waited for her son to arrive to give him the news she had just received. Though, unexpected, it all fell into a nice formation. Celeste was a traitor working for a rebellion. She had always thought little of Celeste. She thought even less of her when she began dating Lanier. Now would be her time, to remove Celeste from the picture so Lanier could fulfill his destiny as heir to her throne.

Just then the door opened and Lanier entered the room. He never looked happy to see her anymore. Another thing she could blame on Celeste.

“You asked to see me, mother?”

“I have heard the most disturbing news, Lanier. You know of the rebellion taking place, yes?”

“Of course, they are little more than unhappy middle class citizens, brandishing their pitchforks.”

“They are more than that it seems. I have just confirmed we have several spies among us. Many have not been identified, except for one. Their newest recruit, Celeste Vela.”

“Surely, you are kidding, mother? Celeste is no spy. She is a loyal Captain in your armed forces.”

“Lanier, you must believe me. I would never bring this to you without confirming it first. She is a traitor. And traitors, must be dealt with. We must waste no time, before she can do any damage to me. To US!”

“NO! There must be some mistake!” Lanier insisted.

“Go to her then,” the Queen replied. Her thoughts were nothing but malicious. “Ask her yourself. If what I say is true, I want you to eliminate our problem. Now go. See to this problem.”

Lanier turned and hurried out of the room. He would waste no time. He would get to Celeste and straighten this whole thing out.

The Queen watched him go, after several minutes, she decided to follow.

*****

“Alright Todd, lets see whats out there. Remember now, don't go digging anything up yet. We'll want to wait for the rest of the team!” Sam called.

“No problem, I just want to take a peak and see what conditions are like down there.”

Todd always felt wonderful while he was underwater. It was one reason why he decided to dive for a living. He could hold his breathe for a very long time, if needed.
Swimming deeper, he finally found what he was looking for. Trying to remain calm he inched closer. The ship was very large, and nothing of this world. Not wanting to, but needing to, he resurfaced.

He headed back towards the shore. He had many questions and he wanted to get some answers before his team showed up to finish this job.

“Forget to mention something, Sam? Thats not just any ship down there. Thats an alien spacecraft!”

“If I had invited you out to investigate a spaceship, do you think you would have come? This is sensitive stuff we have here. You know how the government feels about aliens. They would have swooped in here and covered the whole thing up. I didn't want that. I wanted the world to know we aren't alone!”

“I'm pretty sure there are bodies in there, Sam. Blue Alien bodies...”

“Oh dear. Well I suppose we'll deal with that when we drag the thing up.”

Todd stared at the older man, pondering whether he should help with this. This could make him famous. Did he want that? On the other hand, this is was the find of the century. Who was he not to tell the world?

“Alright Sam, lets get this thing above the water.”

“Aahhh” Celeste stretched. Another long day at work, but today had been a good one. She was really starting to bring home some income and it felt good. She had her family, her newborn daughter, and her lovable husband. She was feeling good.

“Honey I'm home!” Celeste called as she walked in the door. She had heard that line on TV, and it cracked her up.

Closing the website he was looking at, Todd turned to his wife, “I have got to tell you what happened today, I....”

“Hold that thought.” Celeste bolted to the bathroom. She lost all her lunch in one swift movement.

“Oh boy.”

“Looks like mommy is going to have another baby, Alixia. Just in time, tonights your birthday! Your gonna be a big girl. We will just have to wait to tell mommy our news, I guess.”

Later that evening the small family gathered in their living room to celebrate Alixia's birthday. Celeste had called up some of her friends, and everyone cheered as Todd brought her to the cake.

“Ok Allie, Lets blow out these candles.”

“Toss the baby, Todd. I want some cake. I'm starving.”

“Allie, shoooooo.” Alixia called as Todd set her down.

“Perfect timing, I'll go get her changed and then we can have some cake.” Celeste scooped her up and took her for a quick change.

Alixia didn't bother to go meet anyone that night, though. She turned out to be very shy. She preferred to play with her toys, while watching the world around her. She was very playful and neat, also. A nice little bundle of cuteness.

After the guests had left, and Alixia was settled in her crib, Todd finally got a chance to talk with Celeste. He pulled her close. “I've been waiting all night to tell you my news.”

Breathing deeply and relaxing into his arms, Celeste replied “I know sweetie, I'm sorry. First we find out theres another baby on the way, then with Allie growing up, things got a little crazy for a bit. But I'm all ears now.”

“It was an alien spaceship, Celeste, with bodies inside. Thats what I found at Old Sam's. I'm so excited, we are going to drag it up tomorrow, and see if we can get inside. This is better than I ever imagined.”

Celeste didn't reply. What could she say?

“Todd.”

“hmmm.”

“I need to tell you something.”

“Well spill the beans, sweetheart. You know you can tell me anything.” Todd sat down next to her. She hadn't eaten a bite, even tho she had lifted her fork several times. Something was bothering her.

“I.... I haven't exactly been all that truthful with you. I'm not from around here. I.... I well.”

“I know your not from Juniper Springs, Celeste. That much was obvious.”

“Well, I'm not from this planet.. Hell I'm not from this galaxy.” She paused and looked into his eyes. Seeing no anger she continued. “That ship you found, I think it was mine. I was banished here, and the ship that was supposed to drop me off, well I don't know exactly what happened, but I woke up on this lot with a bad headache and no ship in sight.”

“Banished? Why would they banish you?” he didn't bother to question the fact that she was an alien, he had always known she was different, but banishment sounded bad.

“Well its quite a long story...”
*****

Celeste had been waiting for Lanier for the past hour. At the ping of the elevator, she rushed out to meet him. A lot had happened that day, and she desperately needed to speak with him. She had thought about her options. If he really intended to kill her, what could she do to stop him?

She had expected to see a different man, but there stood her Lanier, sweet and presentable as always. The only difference was, he no longer looked happy to see her.

“Is it true?” he asked without even a hello.

So he did know. Her contacts had been right with their information.

She hesitated for only a moment, when his anger got the best of him.

“Damn it Celeste! What do you think you are doing? Your plotting with our enemy?”

“What has possessed you to go against everything you believe in? Our love, our government, our Queen?! Did you think you wouldn't be caught?”

At the mention of the Queen, Celeste finally spoke.

“Our Queen? You mean our dictator? Last time I checked, this was supposed to be a stable evolving government. For the last thousand years, your mother has ruled as if she and only she is in control. The people of this galaxy, need a leader, not a tyrant!”

She knew belittling the Queen to Lanier was not the best idea, he was blinded by his love for his mother. She willed him to see her side of things. She believed in her heart, that her love for him would help her win this fight.

“Please Celeste, do not go through with this. Think of what you are throwing away.” Lanier pleaded. He knew his plea was pointless. Once Celeste had committed herself to something, there would be no going back. He had come here tonight on a mission, he had hoped she was innocent. Finding out that she was guilty, made his blood boil. How could she think for even one second that he would betray his own mother? Yes, she had done some awful things in the past, but all for the greater good. He had thought Celeste felt the same way. How long had she been a traitor? How many nights had he held this backstabber?

“I will not let you do this, Celeste. You are either with our Queen, or you are dead. Do you understand me?” he screamed. Lunging at her, he pushed her to the ground.

Fighting back on instinct, she tried in vain to end this struggle. She didn't want to hurt him, but he was strong. Trained in combat just like her it was an even match.

In one last effort, as he reached for her again, she pushed him with all her strength. She wasn't thinking about her love, she was running on adrenaline. She couldn't feel while she fought! If she took one second to think, that one second could be her last.

Lanier stood and pulled out a knife. She could see in his eyes, he was going to try and kill her. She grabbed the long blade that had been on the wall and pointed it at him as he came at her. He launched himself upon it, running right through his torso. Disgust at what she had done was instant. He dropped to his knees.

She should have thought. She pulled the blade back and out of his chest. His anger was still fresh on his face.

“Lanier..... I..” She tried to reach for him.

“Do not touch me! You have done enough damage!” He couldn't catch his breathe. She couldn't have gotten the best of him. He looked down at his chest. Nausea over came him.

Pulling himself up, he stumbled. Celeste reached for him again, but he pulled away and leaned into the elevator.
*PING*
Celeste watched as the doors closed. She stood stunned that way for several minutes.

“I've got to make it back. * cough * I must warn Mother. Celeste tried to kill me.” His head spun while the elevator made its way back to the lobby. Pain ripped threw him, and he doubled over again. Blood poured from the wound onto the ground.

The Queen strolled into the lobby. Lanier obviously had decided to fail her once more, and run away with the little harlot. She would just have to deal with this herself.

*PING*

Lanier fell out of the elevator. He could stand no longer. His life was slipping away, and his thoughts were frantic. He was angry, confused, and hurt.

“Lanier, what have you done? Whats wrong with you? Where is Celeste?”The sight of him just laying there disgusted her. Such a waste. She had given him a simple task, yet here he was, injured.

“Mother, I think I'm dying. I'm * cough * so sorry. I didn't mean to fail you.” Lanier tried to look up at her face. If he could have, he would have seen the fury.

“This is the last time.” She brought her foot down hard against his head. A swift break of his neck, and Lanier was gone.

The Queen looked down at her only son, one last time.

“Now I've got to clean up your mess.”
*****

“So let me get this straight. Your descendants will be able to go back to your home world, after ten generations. Why would you want them to go back, Celeste? It didn't sound like you had it very well there. And if the Queen really doesn't age, she will still be around, and do you want our great great whatevers to deal her? Wait! How old are you?”

Celeste laughed. “I'm very young among my people. I'm little over one hundred years old. But here I am the same age as you physically. I will age and die with you. As for our children, I want them to be able to see where I came from. It wasn't always the way it is now. The Queen has been the ruler for so long now, that most people except it this way. The rebellion I joined was about the people. Giving our government back to its people.”

“Well our government here isn't to fond of aliens, I don't want anything to happen to our little family. Were going to have to keep this under wraps. When the ship goes public, there will have to be nothing that ties it back to you.”

“I was only on it for a few days, that I can remember.”

“Good. I love you, Celeste. I won't let anything happen to you. Whatever that happened in the past is done with. I don't believe you would ever intentionally harm someone. We will just have to deal with what comes, as it comes, ok?”

“I am so relieved, Todd. I love you too.”

“Good morning, baby. Time to get up and going.” Celeste reached into the crib to hold her daughter. Her stomach was growing larger each day, and this task was starting to take its toll.

“Uppie mommie.”

“Mommy's going to teach you to walk today, Alixia. After your bottle, we will get to it. Does it taste good? Mommy used her very special recipe.”

“Ok, here we go. First we stretch our legs all the way out. Then we take one step in front of the other. Like this.”

Alixia smile up at her. Mommy sure was silly.

“There we go, you got it! I knew that formula was the best. Makes learning things super easy.”

“Whee mommy, again! Again!”

“Not right now, sweetie. Mommy's tired. Looks to me like you are too. Let's take a nappie, and then we will play again later, ok?”

“Ok mommie, nappie then play.”

When Todd got back home that afternoon, he could hear Alixia wailing from the nursery. That girl sure had a set of lungs on her.

“Allie, baby, don't scream like that. Mommy is sleeping and needs her rest. The new baby will be here soon.” Todd set her down to go play.

“Allie play with the baby?”

“Yes, Allie can play with the baby. But first you go play with your toys, and Daddy will go get Mommy up.”

Todd placed his hand on Celeste's belly. “My my, your getting big. You better not have twins in there.”

“Oh very funny. If I have twins, you will be sleeping on the couch, mister.”

“We got the ship above ground today,” he said as he continued to rub her stomach. “Its massive. We had to get several cranes. Luckily, Sam owns the lot next to him so we had them place it there. Its pretty over run so its not visible from the road. I don't think anyone will see it there. Its way out of the way, so we should be safe for a bit while we explore it.”

“I'm glad your enjoying yourself. I would be just fine if I never saw that dreaded ship again. Now, you best go play with your daughter before she gets all huffy.” Alixia had been flittering around their feet as they talked.

“Where's my Allie? Where is she? There she is.” Todd teased her.

“Can't see me Daddy!”

Todd covered his face and peeked through his fingers.

“I see you Daddy!”

“Peek-a-boo!” Alixia giggled and giggled, she could play this game for hours. For as shy as she was, she loved to play and get attention from her parents. She had it pretty good.

Weeks and months continued to pass with the day to day routines.

Todd was enjoying his work. They had finally opened up the ship. He still had his normal job to attend to, so after work he would visit Sam's for a couple of hours, but things were moving slowly. One of the first days, they had buried the bodies of the two men on board. There was no reason to delay on that.

He often came home right after work, to spend time with Celeste and Alixia. Celeste was due any day, and was on leave until the baby arrived.

Todd had turned on the radio that afternoon. Remembering the last time he and Celeste danced he decided to teach her the smustle. Everyone was having a great time, even little Alixia.

All the shaking and dancing, must have rattled something. Celeste clutched her stomach as the contractions started.

“Todd!”

“Yea?”

“The baby is coming! OOOWWwwwwww”

“Mommy!” Alixia cried out. She didn't like hearing her mother in pain and didn't understand.

“Its ok, Allie. Mommy's having the baby. Your about the have a new play buddy.”
