Confessor by Terry Goodkind (Book 12 of the Sword of Truth series)

I am really kind of sad to be done with this series, and in a way, i feel a little relieved, because things were winding up to what seemed like an impossible situation.

Richard is imprisoned by the Imperial Order but they don't know they have Lord Rahl in their clutches. To them, he is Ruben, and point man for Commander Karg's Ja'La team. Their goal is to be the last team standing so they can go against the Emperor's own Ja'La team.

Nicci is captured by Emperor Jagang as well. She has no idea Richard is there, and vice versa. She is close to Kahlan though, and thanks to Orden, she knows who Kahlan is and can see her.

Jillian is with Kahlan and Nicci. The young priestess lives or dies on the whim of the Emperor and on how well Kahlan behaves for the Emperor.

Rachel is sent on a mad quest by someone. Who, she does not know til it is too late. No one knows where she has gone. Zedd and Tom and Cara take off to Tamarang to try to lift the spell that has stripped Richard's gift from him.

Richard sets the last motions of the war into its final days by whipping the Imperial Order's camp into a frenzied and short-lived civil war. In this mad crush of killing and destruction, the allies are able to make their way out of Jagang's encampment but some of them are split from the others yet again.

Many things are learned in the course of events. Things look bleak for the D'Haran people, as well as the Midlands. Everyone has their place in the final days of the war, especially when Jagang gives them 3 weeks to either surrender, or watch as he opens the boxes of Orden. Either way, it looks as if the entire world will fall under a thousand years of darkness. Richard takes steps to ensure that Chainfire can be reversed if he gets the chance, but he doesn't have the book that will teach him how to use his powers. He hid it in Tamarang before he was captured by the Order and has to find a way to retrieve it.

As the pieces begin to fall into place and Jagang comes ever closer to ruling this last bastion of the free world, desperation becomes the flavor of the day. There is one last hope for humanity, a secret left unwritten and unspoken since the dawn of time. Richard needs to learn what that secret is or the world will fall into shadow.

I have one last Terry Goodkind book to read, and it's actually a prequel to the series.

Very good books, I highly recommend them if you have the patience for 12 rather long and complicated books.
