She Who Kicks Ass And Takes Names

January 9th, and I feel like I'm taking the new year by storm! I feel great!

This morning I noticed that I've recently developed the trend of feeling so overwhelmed by the perceived weight of how much I have to do that I act on absolutely none of it, and drift in an illusion of unobligated bliss. To remedy that, I made a To Do list this morning -- funny how just doing that made it seem very easy to knock four little things off the list right away. BAM! That makes me feel better. A few of those were collecting information I need perform step 2 in any given process, so now I have a plan for those items as well.

In the course of figuring out where I can recycle two old CRT televisions (which Goodwill no longer accepts as donations), I learned something cool about my city. The City of Westminster, Colorado will come to my house for a free special recycling pickup once a year: one television (alas, I have two), batteries of all types, paint, aerosol cans and other special handling items. That's really cool to know! I'll setup a special area in the garage for this sort of thing. Meanwhile, FYI, every Best Buy store in the U.S. and Puerto Rico does free electronics recycling. They'll take the old CRTs.

I also made an appointment to donate blood this Saturday! The donation itself is one of my New Year's Resolutions, but this step is especially important because I've previously only donated at blood drives at my office building. I'll have to figure out where the donation office thingee is on Saturday. Once done, the path to future donations will be much smoother and easier. Just figuring this out is really the biggest hurdle, and I'm anxious to bound right over it!

I've also been a ball of fire of general organization and good health just overall in the past week -- actually cooking dinner for us rather than fending for ourselves, eating junk, or blowing money on going out to eat -- AND cooking relatively more healthful things at that! Same with breakfast in the morning, and bringing creative and nutritious lunches (which DON'T involve potato chips) to work. This dishwasher has been getting run & emptied regularly. We have clean clothes to wear. The house is "picked up" if not totally clean, per se -- but the trains are running on time. I got a gift into the mail the other day, which is the greater miracle than actually making the gift in the first place! I've managed to accomplish a couple of long-term "to do" items in the past week, and several more made it onto that list I made this morning. I feel so good when I have a plan, and I'm organized about things, and actually taking care of myself. And lo, and behold, I actually feel better physically when I eat more healthfully and cut out the caffeine, and at least a lot of junk food if not all of it. Believe it or not, I actually have a few items on that To Do list about getting back into water aerobics classes, and getting a little exercise! Whoa! I know. Crazy.

Here's to hoping that the momentum continues at least a little further....
