EVERY single year, we get to the first week of December, and I feel unprepared for Christmas, like I haven't done enough soon enough. The fact that I feel this way in the last week of November this year probably goes to show that this feeling is clearly in my head, and not really based in reality.
This is working in my favor, however, as I am motivating myself to get through that law class paper I mentioned about handling commercial airline crashes since my motivation is, "Then I get to play with Christmas stuff!"
I've started -- Dropped notes to about a dozen people to confirm mailing addresses for Christmas cards. Ordered my postage stamps from the post office. (Did you know you can do this online? $1.25 flat fee shipping, delivered in your mail. You can pick from all the fun ones, too.
Check it out.) Confirmed the ZIP+4 extensions for everyone on my list because I really am that obsessive-compulsive, apparently!
String of white LED icicle lights which are so bright YOU CAN SEE THEM FROM SPACE is up and around the front of our house. It is by far the lamest, most pitiful light display on our street. Everyone else went super-happy overboard. Half the houses have no lights at all, however, so we're still in the Cool Kids Club, and making our contribution to neighborhood merriment. Fake wreath is on the door. A couple easy decorations are up inside -- and really, let's be honest. When I say, "easy decorations," what I truly mean is that they weren't properly put away from last year! Oh well.
I got as far as purchasing yarn to knit customized Christmas stockings for Ian, Mama, the cats, and me, but I haven't played too much with the patterns. I think that's next after I finish off the wearable socks I'm knitting now -- and, of course, finish that goddamn paper I keep mentioning.
Looks like a good holiday lined up for us! My friend Darrin from Atlanta is coming to visit for about a week over the holidays -- not that he's booked his tickets yet. If you know Darrin, I'd consider it a personal favor if you'd hassle him about these airline tickets next time you see him! I think we'll have a lively crowd for Christmas Eve as I always open the doors to friends who either have no other place to go, or simply don't wish to be there. We have a taco bar, and I make everyone watch "It's a Wonderful Life." We play board games. It's jolly!
Normally, Ian and I try to entice friends to go to Benihana with us, and to the movies on Christmas Day. Last year, it was a big stressful run-around which we've decided to skip this year. We'll simply go out with Darrin, relax, take things easy. We're due to meet Kristen and Jose and Kristen's family for Christmas dinner that night. Should be warm, wonderful times!
