Thanksgiving on the Gulf

Nov 21, 2012 09:06

Ian and I made the annual trek down to the Flori-bama coast for Thanksgiving with his family. I woke up this morning to see the Gulf of Mexico stretching to the horizon in a hemisphere around our 10th floor balcony. Technically, I'm in Alabama. Our condo is literally right on the order, about 20' from the Florida border.

WAY TO GO, Trace, with my itinerary planning yesterday: a relaxed day! We departed at 11:45 am, which made it an easy morning, and nice trip to Denver International Airport. The flight to Atlanta is actually only about 2 hours. Short wait, and into Pensacola at 5:45 (we "lose" time with the 2 hour time change going east). Easy day, and I got a lot of knitting done on one of my socks on the plane!

Of course I forgot to bring the extra sock yarn that I'd had my mother wind into a fancy ball for me with her winding gadget. That means only one sock for me this week -- but I'd barely started this one, so I might not finish in time to have needed the extra anyhow. Still -- BUMMER! Then the family got into a big discussion about Game of Thrones last night. That made me realize how many tiny details I'd missed along the way, particularly in Book 5. Now I desperately want to reread it again! My copy is 1,000 miles away, however. I'll stick with Frankenstein for the time being, I guess. Woe is me!

I slept the Sleep of the Egyptian Dead last night. It's good to start off a vacation with that kind of rest. Ian's parents are out at a meeting, taking care of some condo business. Ian's still sleeping in. I'm looking out at the blue glass of the ocean right now as I type this. I'm about to slip on my sunglasses, and head out to the balcony to go breathe some ocean air and knit a sock.

If I haven't said it often enough out loud - or in a blog, anyway - Life is pretty damn good!
