It's going to snow in Denver today. It was in the low 80s yesterday, and hot enough last night to open the windows and sleep on top of the covers... until 3:30 am when the storm blew in. The high today will be 45, and we're expecting wet, soggy snow. At least we knew in advance, and brought the container plants inside.
My weekend had my favorite mix of productivity and relaxation, social time and quiet time. Our friends Mac and John had a housewarming party Saturday night, and I spent a few hours that afternoon shopping around for their housewarming present, and then cooking for the potluck. John loves queso, so I got them a little 20 oz. Crock Pot from Tarjay, and of course made queso to go with it. I put together a last-minute request of fresh guacamole which received a lot of compliments, I'm proud to say. I used Kermit's "secret" ingredient of Montreal Steak Seasoning, and did what Kristen does with hers which is to leave the tomatoes and onions in large chunks. I also used an old fashioned potato masher on the avocados, and I've decided this is the perfect tool for the job! I like the avocado a little chunky, and the food processor makes it too smooth. A fork just takes too long... Boy, I bet this is more information about how to make guacamole than really interested you.
Party was good. Played one of those werewolf hunting social games, which was a big hit.
Ian and I got lots of little things done this weekend, including a little bit of spring planting. I started some morning glory and moonflower seedlings in an egg crate in the garage. We won't be able to put the plants out until Mother's Day here, but I'm excited to get started! I also planted some scallion bulbs, and Ian planted an amaryllis bulb that my mother gave him for Christmas.
We got some little things done like hooks hung up around the house for my purse and keys, and small items fixed, shuffled, or otherwise attended. Unpacked 2 more boxes. Centralized all the gardening stuff that I can find (some remains at large) in the garage, as well as all our painting supplies which were taking up space elsewhere.
Started knitting a new baby blanket for Jose & Kristen's foster daughters on Sunday. I'm using bubble gum pink acrylic yarn which is a little hideous, but I know how wonderfully durable it will be.
Dentist appointment today. Fighting forces of cancer tomorrow night. Making stir-fry for Higgins and Kertz later this week... sometime. Donating blood on Thursday! Taking the day off work on Friday for installation of the new air conditioner and furnace to replace the 26 year-old model original to our house. Wondering why businesses are closed next weekend because I've forgotten that it's Easter. That's about it.
