Lovely 38th Birthday!

Apr 14, 2009 16:47

I'm 38 today, which actually works out well since - for whatever reason - I've spent the past year rounding my age up, telling people I'm already 38. At least I finally caught up!

The weather is simply gorgeous here in Austin. I went out at lunchtime to put some air in my bike tires, inspired by the example of moosea1 who just received a bike for her birthday a week ago. I can't wait to take it out for a spin this evening in such nice weather, and in this peaceful neighborhood where I actually feel safe riding it down the street.

Ian and I are going out for a casual dinner, just the two of us, tonight -- probably Outback (my choice). This upcoming Saturday, he may try to get some friends together for something, also casual.

Otherwise, I have such exciting bits to report as: Kitties are playing with billowing curtains in the sunlight over my desk. I ate yummy spaghetti leftovers in my thrilling hobbit life, and watched episode 2 of "Big Love" from Netflix at lunchtime. Everyone in the world has crawled out the woodwork to wish me happy birthday today, which is WONDERFUL! I very much appreciate the good wishes, thank you all! Managed to unpack two boxes today, bring some emptied boxes down to the garage, and pack up some LARP treasure to mail to my friend Brian since I'm not going to the next Wildlands event.

And in unexciting news (now that you're exhausted from the previous excitement and riveted to your seat): does anyone else get the feeling that the writers of the current season of "Heroes" never watched Season 1? What happened to that half a double-helix symbol? Didn't Peter Petrelli date Charles whathisname's daughter; why didn't she have powers? And why do they keep reusing powers within the plot? Doesn't it strike anyone as weird that of the original four founding Company members, two of them had the exact same power set? I smell a rat.

Two more enthralling notes: Speaking of super powers, Ian got me into the Champions Online beta test. I finally got to play for the first time last Friday night. It's neat! Different art style from City of Heroes. Reminds me a lot of the gameplay of City of Villains, actually. They've clearly taken everything they learned from the first round, and amplified it. I'm really excited about this game!

Unfortunately, in the midst of this, my desktop computer seems to have suffered an attack. It's not doing so well. Fortunately, Ian got to take his awesome laptop away from the Guildhall with him, and he had little use for it. I've sort of taken this over until later. We'd been planning to upgrade Ian's computer this year -- which means, build a new one from scratch. I'll inherit his current one ("The Monolith"), and we'll retire "SkyNet" to be a media server or something for us, poor dear. At least we've got the extra laptop so we didn't have to contemplate adding further unplanned expenses to our plate right now, that was good. You'll note that I'm currently off AIM/Trillian, and not posting many photos while I shift to the new electronic digs, however.

Off to pursue a relaxing evening of springtime enjoyment!
