I'm very excited about Election Day! My mom and I are getting together tonight to bake bread and watch the results come in on the news and later Comedy Central. I feel very positive about this election, and I wish people would get on the bandwagon with that. I think we're going to see record turnouts at the polls, and how can that be other than awesome? (Note: This is a rhetorical question. I'm not honestly interested in your opinion of how it's other than awesome.) I encouraged two people to vote for the very first time, and I voted for the second time ever, so I feel pretty great about that.
Yesterday morning I went to my annual physical, and met my new physician. She talked me into getting the vaccine for Hepatitis A & B just cuz. It was less painful than a tetanus shot, but still stung quite a bit for about a half-hour. It's a three-parter. I'll get the next in January and the third in May. What Ian told me but the doctor did not is apparently that you get shot #3 in the butt! YUCK! I can see why they lure you into committing to the first two and save that little detail for the end, har har. Otherwise the appointment was just routine. I'm looking forward to getting my lab results; I want to see if my cholesterol numbers have improved over the past year with my increased exercise. My cholesterol wasn't bad before and I don't think it will be now, but seeing some improvement there would nevertheless be encouraging.
My employer announces quarterly financial results this morning and we had a devil hands waving awesome quarter! It's nice to hear some good financial news somewhere during trying times.
Ian is ill, poor dear! He never gets sick - ever. When he does, the illness usually burns itself out in under 24 hours. Not this time. He's all congested and stuffy and occasionally coughing. Bad timing with interviews this week! I hope he feels better by then. The stuffed animals and I encouraged him to take today off school to stay home and rest. No clue if he did so.
I'm about done with using Instant Messenger programs at work, I've decided. I find the practice unpleasantly distracting. I described to a friend yesterday that I think I enjoy being able to exchange personal notes in email, LJ Comments, or on message boards because that's at my leisure. Chat programs are more demanding, however. I can't just check them when I have a moment and then go back to my work -- chat programs are more In Yer Face. I'm not declaring a jihad against them, or even uninstalling them from my computer. I'd expect that I'll be logging in less often, however, for awhile. Just FYI.
Two of the companies with whom Ian is interviewing this week are in the Baltimore area. Turns out both offices are within 15 miles of his brother's house. Being that close to family would admittedly be pretty swank. I've given up rooting for one dog over another in this race, however. I'll just be happy if Ian gets a job he's excited about, and hopefully with little difficulty and heartache getting there. Already one of his interviews got canceled due to the unforeseen closure of the studio! Oy. Tough times indeed. Just gotta ride this out.
