Friday Night and Into Saturday

At the invitation of Ian's schoolmate "Tron," we went to see "10,000 BC" last night. It was better than I expected. Now, since I expected it to be a steaming pile of rubbish, that may not be saying much. It was mildly amusing while it lasted, however. The geography of the movie was very confusing to me, but you really have to let those things go. It was sort of like live-action "Age of Empires" meets "Stargate" meets... something. It had stampeding woolly mammoths, and domesticated woolly mammoths building a pyramid, and really that's what I was in for. My favorite part was translating for all the African tribesmen -- "My mask is itchy." "No, my mask is itchier." "The hell you say! I have the itchiest mask of all!" I'm pretty sure that's what they were saying anyway. Of "Apocalypto," "Pathfinder," and this, this was my favorite of the three, although Ian and Tron preferred "Apocalypto."

Tron's name is actually Ron. The first time I met him, I misheard him when he introduced himself (there's a surprise). As "Tron" is an exceedingly cool name for a video game designer, it sorta stuck.

We ate dinner at On The Border since it was across the street from the theatre and semi-convenient. We tried their new Chipotle Chicken Rolls -- called something like that, anyhow. They were spicier than I expected. Better when dunked in the very sweet jalapeño jelly with which they were served, but still kinda odd. I don't think I'll order them again.

Last night at 3:00 am I had an unfortunate mini run-in with one of my neighbors who came home with car stereo blaring disco, and then paused in the driveway outside my bedroom window with car stereo still going to get organized to leave the car. I hopped out of bed and went outside to shout, "Hey! Turn your stereo down!" This was nuts. The woman turned off the stereo and walked away, so I called, "Thank you!" in the tone of voice that really means something else altogether different. She stopped, came back and shouted, "I don't know what you're saying, but I just pulled up, so whatever you heard, it must have been someone else." WTF? It was like Emperor Kuzco -- "I dunno. Somebody's throwin' stuff." Grow up. I just called a more sincere sounding thank you and went back to bed. But Lady in the Red Mustang? -- like Kung Fu Panda, I'm watchin' you!

I've got a much needed chiropractor appointment in one hour. I haven't done yoga since last Saturday and I am paying the price! My lower back feels like my spine is trying to twist out of my body, and it's felt that way all week. Down, spine, down!

I've got to do some serious grocery shopping this week, including coming up with some new ideas for my lunches at work since soup is just no longer cutting the mustard as we approach springtime. This week's experiments will include giving a try to Skippy's Reduced Fat Peanut Butter, and trying a Pepperidge Farm bread that's lower in Weight Watchers Points. Might make a Sam's Club run today as well since we're low on a few items we get there -- I've got to dig around in the freezer and see how we're set for chicken breasts, the mainstay of our homecooked dinners. (EDIT: Apparently we have one chicken breast, so I am definitely going to Sam's today!)

Gotta run by campus and see if either the bookstore (which I have yet to visit) is open, or if there are these Scantron vending machines I've heard about. I need one for Monday night's midterm in Personal Finance which is a HUGE pain in my ass.

And of course, fill up the remaining 3/8's of a tank in my car at $3.05/gallon. Ouch.

Oh yeah, Ian's father is coming to visit us in late April when he comes to Dallas for a seminar at work anyhow. Sadly, his visit falls the week before Ian has finals so he won't be able to take any time off, I think, and even his free time may be quite limited. Nevertheless, we've been looking forward to this opportunity to have his family visit, and it should be cool. I really hope we can grow closer to Ian's family. We've been talking about spending a long weekend with them in Jersey this summer.
