I've started reading one of Ian's Christmas gifts, Confessions of an Ugly Step-Sister from the same author as Wicked - His name may be Greggory Macguire, or something like that. This is the first book I've read from him. I'm almost half-way through it, and honestly don't know if I like it or not. His writing style is odd - all in the present tense, which kinda throws me. I'm enjoyed the characterization so far, however, and that's important to me. He's one of those authors who has certain choice phrases that he uses over and over, however, and that drives me nuts! Like in Dragonlance when everyone was "flushing a shade of dusky rose" every five minutes. These people chew on their lower lips for reasons I can't fathom. It's held my interest this far, however, and in that I suppose I'm enjoying it. Then again, I couldn't put down the last books I read by Stephen R. Donaldson, and I think he's a hack!
No exciting news from the kitchen recently. Tried our hand at steak tips last night, and they were somewhat lacklustre. We really need to research a better marinade than what I threw together, and practice grilling them as they were ever so slightly overdone. Roasted rosemary-onion potatoes, a favorite, might benefit from some red wine vinegar and chili powder, I decided. I'll try that next time.
By the way, did I tell you about my weight? Finally bought a scale last weekend, and it turns out I weighed 10 pounds less than I thought I did. My weight fluctuates all over the place, and the scale now reads 7 pounds even lower than that now. I'm in a new tax bracket, as my aunt would say! Huh. Well, that's good news.
Had a good cry over turning 35 (in April) last night. I felt better afterwards. Sometimes you just need to cry these things out. It's good for the soul, if bewildering to the boyfriend.
Off to homemade salad for lunch! Go me! And more ugly step-sister action... as it were.
