Around 5pm today, Lilian started vomiting. She woke from her nap very very cranky so we gave her a popcicle, thinking maybe her lip from yesterday's fall was bothering her. That and a tea party with mommy seemed to cheer her up. Then, about an hour later, she vomited all over. Josh brought her upstairs, cleaned her up, and cuddled for a bit while I cleaned the living room. She started acting like her normal self again. Then about a half an hour later, she threw up the rest of her food. Now she was very lethargic. I went to get her pedialyte and saltines while my husband just held my lethargic little girl. Then she vomited bile about three times.
She refused to drink so we gave her a dropperful of pedialyte. I went to grab something to eat while Josh held her and she took a few more sips of the pedialyte. Then threw it up everywhere, but it seemed to just be the liquid she just ingested. And suddenly she couldn't be happier. She was very energetic and playing with her toys. I wanted to give her a bit more time before putting her to bed (though by now it was 9pm!) so I let her play. Then I gave her another dropper of pedialyte, she took a sip from the sippy, and I held her a bit before putting her in the crib.
As I was laying her down, she began to vomit again. This time it was bile and the lethargy came back. I decided to call my doc's office and spoke with the outsourced nursing service they use after hours. I got a call back about 10 minutes later and was asked a series of questions. She seemed to think it was a virus at first, but then combined with the fall and the fact that she finally comprehended that Lilian's rectal temp is NORMALLY 99.3, so she didn't spike a fever, she began to waver between a head injury and the virus. I mean, seriously, she was very unclear about what we should do.
Finally she said we should take her to the ER to get checked out, but the poor thing is so exhausted that I decided to wait it out until the morning. I don't know if that's the right decision, but since her fall was friday and nothing happened and she's had no other signs, we went with this plan. Of course I will second guess it every second, but hopefully we made the right call.
