Max wanted some little-sister-free time on the weekend, so his Daddy took him to the Powerhouse Museum. So Nell & I hit King St. We got a book for each member of the family at Better Read Than Dead (I got Sheridan Hay's The Secret of Lost Things; Mr TQD got They call me naughty Lola; Max got Rusty in the Thomas and Friends series; and Nell got Jez Alborough's Hug, which is truly delightful, especially when she wants to give me a cuddle when the monkey [chimp, actually] gets a hug from his mummy).
And I picked up Anita Shreve's The Pilot's Wife for $1 from St Vinnies (whoohoo!), plus the O'Reilly Learning XML for $4. Phwoar!
Then on to Yoshii Jones, where Nell fell in love with the cutest pig torch. It was red, and when you squeezed the handle on the side, the *snout* briefly lights up. (Or, as Max quickly discovered, there was a switch on the side that kept the lights on, and, my deity, it was bright.) Since I could barely get it out of her hands (and then only so she could grab the pink and yellow pig torch), I bought it for her. She was, of course, a bit over it by the time we got home, so Max decided it was *his* toy (it's a *family* toy is the correct response), and it came in handy when we had to turn off all the lights in the house (except a night light or two, plus Nell's baby monitor, and I couldn't find the power switch anywhere on the DVD player) for
Earth Hour. He got to light up the stairs for me on our way to bed!
And I think I fell asleep before the kids did that night! All that pounding the pavement, pushing a pram, takes a lot out of you...
Oh, and there are some great
photos of Max and Nell at various playgrounds that were taken last April up on Flickr now. Only about a year late! I'm especially fond of the ones of Max playing in the tunnel slide at Victoria Park, as shown.
