You know, I was really, REALLY shy in high school and never talked to anyone. One day the guidance counselor called me into his office to tell me that a bunch of my teachers thought I was on DRUGS and he wanted to know if I was on DRUGS because I never talked in class. I said, "I thought that was the point of class." He didn't have a smart answer to THAT. But man, my parents were pissed off that they'd decided to attempt an intervention and never contacted them with their concerns.

Then! When I was a junior, one of my teachers died, a fellow I'd had as a teacher since sixth grade. I was very upset about it because I had been sick the day before when he'd collapsed so I knew nothing about anything, and as soon as we sat down in home room (he was my home room teacher and all) the principal came over the loud speaker and was like, "AS YOU ALL KNOW MR SHEPHERD HAD A HEART ATTACK YESTERDAY. HE DIED LAST NIGHT. CARRY ON." And I was like "omgwut!" So I left home room and called my mom and was like, "Mom! *cry*" and she was all, "OMG! What is wrong? I will come get you!" And she arrived at the school and she said there were students crying in the hall way and she had no idea what was going on, and she went into the office to tell them she was there to pick me up, and they were like, "Huh? Well ... we don't know where she is. She must have run away!"

You know, even though I was in my scheduled class. They even called the police. Finally, the guidance counselor and principal managed to find me in my gym class and scold me about how I had upset and scared everyone. And I said, "...by going to class? O.o"

I had a similar thing, but with alcohol. I still to this day don't know how they even thought it, but I got called into the counselors office & he said he was concerned for me & asked if I had a drinking problem. I proceeded to tell him that I'd only ever had a mouth full of alcohol that my older cousin gave me a taste of. He then questioned me for 20 minutes to get "the truth" out of me. Idiot.

The same counselor also made me sign a document stating that I'd "never purposefully or accidentally hurt myself" after I actually was honest with him a year later & told him I'd been feeling a bit depressed because my dog died when I got called to see him.

Yeah, school counselors are fucking idiots. Sounds like it's the same in the US too.
