Seriously, WHAT THE FUCK!?
I just went to see M. Night Shyamalan's newest movie, The Happening.
Now, I'm a big fan of his. 6th Sense was chilling, Unbreakable was one of the better movies I've ever seen, and I even liked The Village.
And now this piece of trash comes out.
Zooey Deschanel can't act her way out of a paper bag. For fuck's sake, she blew cock in Tin Man, why the fuck would you hire her in your movie? Keanu Reeves has a better acting range!
And then Mark Wahlberg, who is supposed to be a good actor, seemingly phones in his performance. The chemistry between the two is non-existant, even though there's this whole love sub-plot.
John Leguizamo is one of my favorite actors, I love the variety of characters he can play. He must be getting desperate for work, as his part in this movie is not only a throwaway, but also poorly acted.
And don't get me started on the writing. There wasn't a single spooky moment in the entire film, I didn't even jump at the laughably pathetic 'sudden face in the window accompanied by loud music' attempt. There was no plot twist at the end, in fact, the ending just kind of hung there, with no real feeling of conclusion.
Interesting characters popped up and then popped off, I had no idea where the movie was trying to go or what it was trying to do. At first I thought it was supposed to be horror (as it was billed), but at different points it was trying to be a romance, a comedy, a tragedy, and even sci-fi. Little bits of information were vomited out by random characters, with none of it making any difference or sense.
I want my money back. No, wait, fuck that, I want Mr. Shyamalan's head on a fucking pike.
