Bye Cricket, I Will Always Love You

My doggy has moved on to a better place.

She had to be put to sleep this week. I got her when I was about 15, so she was really old, for a dog. I knew she was getting on in age, as she had developed a grey muzzle and had calmed down a lot (she was SO hyper when younger). But it still came as a shock, as she wasn't sick before or anything. Best guess is she had a stroke of some kind and it left her paralyzed, so my mom had to take her in to the vet.

This happened while I was on my mini-trip to San Jose. I hate when fun times end in sadness. The trip was nice; easy driving, no problems, and my relatives were fun to hang with. But what a suck thing to come back and learn.

My Moms is pretty messed up over it all, more than me even, as the dog has lived with her full time for all these years (like when I was away at college, or in an apartment that didn't allow dogs, and now since I'm at my grandparents). Moms hasn't taken a walk since that day; Cricket was her walking partner, they took two a day, one in the morning and one in the evening. She hasn't gone in the backyard at all either. Says she keeps looking out the sliding glass door and expecting to see the dog sitting there like usual. Yeah, she made me bawl my eyes out.

That's her when I first got her (at our very old house in Merced), about 6 weeks old or so. She was part shih tzu, dachshund, and chihuahua. She was so tiny, much smaller than the cat (we still have that cat too, and our other one from then, they're probably next to go, gonna cry again).

Here she is sneaking water out of the big dog's pen when we lived in Oregon. She was always such a character. I'm surprised her tail isn't a blur, in almost all other pics of her it is (always wagging it and moving around). She's probably around ten here.

This one was taken in December of last year at my parent's house in Tracy. Ignore the smudges on the window where she's been licking it. You can see how grey she's gotten. That was her spot, right in front of the door looking in at all of us, she was very nosy.

I will miss her lots, and cry when I think of her, and when I think of my moms having to walk without her. She was the best little dog, and she was my baby for so long. *gods, I'm sobbing and snotting on my keyboard, how gross*

My aunt's dog just had puppies. Part daschund and part terrier. I was thinking about getting one, now I'm not so sure.

pic, shit happens, animals, life
