Clearly Bush would have benefited greatly from a little self-doubt. The guy is way too convinced he's right all the time. Democrats may think that is a fault of Republicans in general (and Republicans might think Dems are prone to endless negotiating and turd polishing). Whatever the case, I would have thought that Democrats would have figured out by now, on a purely strategic basis if nothing else, that Republicans would respect them more if they took off the kid gloves and just told people plainly what was on their mind.

Democrats should watch and emulate this clip of the Donald. It would greatly increase their cross-party appeal, although I admit that I have no idea how much it would turn their base off.
