I have a student, senior in high school. He finds me on Myspace, asks to be my friend. What do I do?

I never plan on being a High School or lower school teacher. But it does seem kinda odd.

I hope he hasn't found this. I have no clue how he found me on Myspace.

Advice? Thoughts?

ifyour myspace is a personal page decline. If it is like your "artist" page then it is fine. just tell him you think it is not fitting...or make up some excuse

I tell everyone the same thing. I have a strict college + requirement for viewing anything personal of mine (including myspace, facebook, etc.), and I reserve the right to deny access to any person at any time. Just a professional policy...

How uncomfortable are you about it? maestrokorn January 20 2007, 18:50:48 UTC
Since you arent teaching school then I say that there's nothing wrong with it unless you are truly uncomfortable with it. I personally would not because this allows them to peek into another spectrum of your life. I do however have 3 high school kids on facebook. One is my cousin, one is my niece, and one is the friend of my niece. So no threats there. They already know too much by me telling them.

It's your call. Do whatever it takes to keep that student/teacher relationship appropriate and professional.
