An Experiment into the Benign

Life, it put it mildly, has been very sweet. I have a full plate of projects, work continues to be an enjoyment (even among the things i don't enjoy that come with it), and socially it's like MFF is still happening. My stress has been low in most respects and even on downing days something has happened to pick it right back up to make me smile and ( Read more... )

Toz(ier) 1.0 was a character created by the artist Amanda Payne. She had created him as a side character for part of her stories on the site she ran. Toz was a straight, ex-military robust character that was disillusioned from the side he was fighting on and joined the rebel group. The story for him stopped short there (a mixed with a few moments of showing his tender side) as Amanda stopped writing stories for some time.

I came across all this at the same time of looking into furry. Actually I was probably looking FOR animal art because of furry but neither order matters. I was also working on my animal studies and Red Pandas had been a huge interest of mine for some time. I liked Toz's background, and now looking back confused liking his structure for wanting his structure, I liked how he was drawn and presented and on top of that, he was a Red Panda which I felt I shared "furry" qualities with. Deal done! Shortly after and dipping my feet further into furry I contacted Payne and asked if I could have Toz for myself.
Over time Toz changed more image wise into what I wanted to be, and that is the key to the second part of your question; what I wanted to be, and then after I've had Toz 2.0 for art and all relations.

For a few months I've come to and accepted the fact that I like Toz and he'll always be my character. But he's not me as a personification of an animal. He's the one I WANT to be and work towards. At the entrance into furry I'd asked a lot of questions, admittedly a lot to the wrong people to be asking them to, to how you pick and animal and what it means and yatta yatta. And the answers I got were from here to the moon and everywhere in between. So I don't look back having felt I picked Toz poorly, just under false pretenses.
I share a lot of qualities with Red Pandas which was the primary for how easy the pick was. Plus I'd looked around and I wanted something a little more individualist on the field. But I felt at this point Toz should be shelved as the goal I see him as. I haven't settled just yet for the ME me character im I've been looking toward dogs, or canines to be more accurate. There's a lot of overlap there though im not sure everything is a complete fit yet. I like to lead, I like to follow. I like being in a group but I also like being alone. I like getting into trouble and just curling up and being comforted. There's a list. I've presented this character before with others and for now, the overall experience has been happy but im cautious enough to look this one over before creating another Toz.
