automatic headlights

Jan 15, 2012 12:18

On the morning drive to work it is not completely daylight yet.
Yet almost every morning I see there are people driving without headlights turned on.

Is it that they forget to turn off the lights when they get to work ? So they don't turn them on ?

Many newer cars have automatic headlight shutoff when the engine is turned off and driver door opened. An inexpensive feature using existing switches.

Lights on might not be needed to see the road, yet it increases notice for other drivers to see the vehicle.

Do they think they are saving electricity by not using the lights ?  They are not.

Do they think they are increasing the fuel usage miles-per-gallon by not using the lights ?  They are not.

Most times it is a dark color vehicle without lights on, making it not as easy to see without lighting, in the dark.

When it is snowing or raining or only a cloudy morning it is darker.

A little dashboard indicator light in some vehicles show when headlights are on.
Some have dashboard lights on all the time, so that is not an indicator of when headlights are on.

The older vehicles had chrome bumpers. People would notice when they did not see their headlight reflections on another cars bumper.

Chrome bumpers were a safety feature. Yet it only works if they are paying attention. People get busy, in a hurry, not thinking of the task at hand.
