"About the Character" Revision -take 1 toyhopes April 5 2011, 20:09:45 UTC
Vivi Nefertari is about 8-years-old. In some ways she is your average 8-year-old girl. She dresses like a normal girl, looks like a normal girl (if you can consider having blue hair normal), and acts very much like a normal girl. Around other kids her age she can be brash and cocky, calling people names and picking fights with other kids and being blunt about it [ 1, 2 ]. She frequently ignores her situation, putting herself in danger from bandits and gunpowder.

She can also be sweet, friendly, and curious as any other girl her age. Because of her young age she can also be over emotional, crying easily when afraid, injured, or when she is reprimanded harshly by the guard captain, Pell.

What makes little Vivi so much different is that she is a princess. That’s right, at 8 years old she is destined to someday rule the ancient and prosperous kingdom of Alabasta. And this is something she is very aware of. When the situation calls for it she is polite, respectful, and a perfect diplomat. At the World Council she is “accidentally” struck down by Wapol, the ill-mannered king of another country but instead of crying, which would be her normal reaction, she remains calm and sweetly apologizes for being in his way, neatly diffusing a situation that could have easily led to a nasty war. Dalton, the head of Wapol’s guard was amazed at the wisdom she showed beyond her years. [Episode 91]

Even as a child, it is said that Vivi has a strange power to draw in people around her with her with her openness and friendliness. Her father taught her that making friends and getting along well with people is the most important part of being a ruler [ 3] and she is able to draw in the loyalty of adults and children alike. Having lost her mother at a young age, she was raised by her caretaker, Igaram, as well as by the two head guards, Pell the Falcon and Chaka the Jackle. They are loyal to her as the princess but their loyalty goes well beyond that of contractual obligation. Igaram becomes something of a second father to her, worrying about her as much as her own doting father does. And while Pell reprimands her harshly for putting herself in danger, he tells her that she means the world to him and he tells her that he would be lost without her [ 4].

After a second fight with Kohza, whom she calls Leader, Vivi is named coleader of the Suna Suna Clan, a group of children in the village [ 5] and even the children are completely loyal to her, willing to risk their young lives to protect her from bandits that want to kidnap her for ransom [ 6].

She begins to mature as a person after meeting Kohza and the Suna Suna Clan. She becomes more trusting and able to rely on others. She also begins to realize the effects of her actions, especially after Kohza is seriously injured trying to defend her from a man who is three times his size and carrying a knife. Afterward, Vivi cries, saying that she doesn’t want anyone to be injured for her sake, [ 7] a sentiment she carries with her into adulthood.
