The first time Vivi and Kohza meet, Vivi calls him a crybaby, he calls her shorty, and they quickly get into a fight, which Vivi loses easily. To regain her pride she challenges Kohza to another fight, claiming that if she won she would be the leader, showing that she was very proud as a child [ 8]. While the results of the second fight are never seen, it becomes clear that Vivi gains the children’s respect by fighting and acting at their level instead of acting like a stuck up noble. Vivi is named co-leader of the Suna Suna Clan, a group of children in the village [ 9] and Vivi happily accepts Kohza and calls him Leader. Both he and the rest of children become completely loyal to her because of this openness and sincerity, willing to risk their young lives to protect her from bandits that want to kidnap her for ransom [ 10].

She begins to mature as a person after meeting Kohza and the Suna Suna Clan. She becomes more trusting and able to rely on others. She also begins to realize the effects of her actions, especially after Kohza is seriously injured trying to defend her from a man who is three times his size and carrying a knife. Afterward, Vivi cries, saying that she doesn’t want anyone to be injured for her sake, [ 11] a sentiment she carries with her into adulthood.
