A Bringing Back of LJ Updates

Well, here I am, back again or at least trying to be. It has been a few years since my last real post and still a couple of years since the last throwaway post on livejournal. I would like to try getting back into writing just a bit, if for nothing else it will help refresh my rusty skills since it looks like I will have to start writing more at work. Writing, for me, is like math. If you use it often even in small doses, you will continue to be good at it and will retain a lot of the form and skill required. However, if you let it sit without using it, it can be surprising how hard it is to remember basic things like how to get your thoughts organized in a logical manner that looks good on a page.

That is my preliminary apology. This post and the next several are likely to be rough to read due to the awkwardness of my style. Hopefully it will clear up as I post more.

Hopefully...

I originally started writing on livejournal as a way of expressing what was going on in the terrific mangle that was my early to mid-college career. It was a time of great change and frustration for me and everyone around me. It was a way to exorcise a few demons while giving fair warning to my friends of the demons that were hounding me. The journal was meant to be cathartic and, mostly, it was, but as the turmoil subsided and things got better my writing trickled and then died off. The disease that was my depression was somewhat my muse. A lot of my artistic expression is gone and not just from here, and I am sad about that. Though weighing the pros and cons of my healthy mind and my sick one, I am at peace with giving up that expression in order to not have to experience that chaos again. I'm sure my husband appreciates that too.

So, what will become of this journal? Well, as said above, I am going to try to start posting again but it will definitely be of a different flavor than before. It will be much less cathartic and, hopefully, more professional. I would like to update at least once a week with either a review of a book or a discussion on certain topics that I am passionate about. Reasonable debate will be allowed in the comments, but will be limited to intelligent points and counterpoints to my arguments. That is not to say that I will delete your comments if I do not agree with you, but to say that you need to back up your comments with facts and logic. In addition to those posts, I would like to start updating friends again on general life happenings and whatnot. Those will probably be few and far between and I do not want to count them as part of my regular posts. I try to do the same on twitter, but I find that it is hard to express all that I would like in less than 140 characters (ref. see this post :P).

Well, in the style that shows that I still do not know how to conclude things (thanks, Doug, for pointing that out about my high school essays :P), I am going to end things here for now. Next weekend, I hope to have a review ready about a book that I read several months back about how one woman's cells revolutionized modern medicine. I started the review way back when I first finished the book, but it petered out and I haven't looked at it since then. That is the purpose of this post. I want my friends to hold me accountable so I will do this again. Please be a good friend and demand that I keep making my awkward rambling posts. ;) Thanks.
