Later this month, when the verdict from his second trial is to be announced, we will finally know what fate Vladimir Putin has in mind for political dissident Mikhail Khodorkovsky.

This man, formerly the richest man in his country, was accused of tax fraud in 2003 and has been languishing in a Siberian prison for seven years. His crime? To have wanted for his country a true democracy, as well as genuine respect for human rights. Real justice. And to realise this dream, this ideal, he intended to use his immense wealth to support political parties in opposition, which was not a welcome move at the highest level: a man who wants to spread hope has no place in this world. A man with a sincere vision for his country and his countrymen must be destroyed immediately.
That's what they tried to do. But even from his cell, Khodorkovsky did not succumb to silence. Even in ruins, he continued to write, and to yell. Since 2003, this intelligent, romantic, wonderful man is my only hero. He is far from perfect but his battle, which he refuses to give up on, touches me deeply. Russia and the world need him.

А вот - мнение читателей Гардиан:

This is a sick joke.
A Russian billionaire, Russia's own jailed and convicted fraudster, their Bernie Madoff, is a hero of democracy.
And you publish this bilge here?
Money doesn't talk it swears.
Have a look at his Wikipedia entry. That must have set him back a bit too. $10,000 maybe.
Peanuts!

Khodorkovsky remains inspiring

Khodorvkosky is the owner who closed-down Bank Menatep, absconded with all of the assets ("allegedly"), leaving account-holders with nothing... and then used the money to buy a controlling stake in the Yukos gas company?
As inspiration for international fraudsters, he's hard to beat :(
And this crapola is served-up as "democracy" in the Guardian??
What a crock. Disgraceful reporting of the lowest order.

We need someone like Putin to jail our own Western equivalents. That is why Putin he is so popular to the average Russian (which the Western media just do not get it!),.
I defy anyone not to laugh and love Putin for that video where he says 'Give me the biro back!' Looks at camera (look on face = these thieving scum will even nick the biro).

I'm not sure whether the Guardian editors have published this infantile paean of praise, which risibly presents the zillionaire criminal kleptocrat Khodorkovsky as a noble partisan of true democracy, justice and human rights, because they have totally lost the plot and don't realise they are insulting the intelligence of their readers, or whether they are knowingly having a laugh at the expense of its pitiable author, Mr Taïa.
