Помощь из Голландии
Во время дискуссии в ЖЖ marina_yudenich я уже высказывал свою программу: позитив, но подкрепленной конкретными цифрами. Следую своим же пожеланиям: информация по поводу торфяников. Пока ехал с работы и слушал радио, узнал , что наше правительство обратилось к голландцам (ну, тоже отчасти наши ;) ) из международной организации, занимающейся проблемами торфяников http://www.wetlands.org/ , со штаб-квартирой в Эде.
По словам представителя в Москве, они уже начали работать с гос. структурами и еще раз сказали - единственное спасение - это затапливать осушенную территорию. Опыт у голландцев есть: они и осушают, и затапливают все хорошо.
В чем риск: в отличие от лесных пожаров, выбрасываются мелкодисперсные частицы (как в дизельных двигателях). Они осаждаются в легких, и это плохо.
Peat fires cause totally different smog than forest fires. The smog in Moscow is currently so terrible because of the burning peatlands. The poisoning smoke caused by burning peat contains - unlike forest fires - very small soot particles that after inhalation forever attach between the pulmonary alveoli. This increases the risk of lung cancer and emphysema and causes major problems for people with asthma and other respiratory disorders.
Шансы, что пойдет хуже: К сожалению, они есть... Больно много торфяников, и больно они сухие..
Ну и что с этим делать? Трудное дело. Сухой торф может поглотить воды в тысячу раз больше, чем весит сам. Бомбардировка с самолета - все равно что из пушки (водомётной) по воробьям.
Тhe measures that are currently being taken, including the deployment of water bombers, are nowhere near enough to stop the peat fires. The meters thick peat in Russia contain approximately ten times more combustible organic material than above ground biomass (forests) and can continue for a long time under the surface. The extremely dry peat can absorb 1000 times more water than their dry weight. The expectation is therefore that some of the peat fires will continue to rage till deep in the winter. Most of these fires will continue after rainfall like last night. Only after prolonged rains these fires will extinguish.

During discussions with the governor of Moscow, Boris Gromov, Prime Minister of Russia, Vladimir Putin, has called for a federal program for rewetting Russian peatlands to fight fires in the future. According to Wetlands International, an NGO that works to sustain and restore wetlands worldwide, this is indeed the only effective way to minimise peat fires in the future.
А может, пофиг? Раз в 200 лет такое бывает. Да нет, не пофиг. Оттуда масс СО2 выходит, а сидит гораздо больше:

Теперь я понял. что это меня все в Дубаи и Ал-Айн тянет. Там торфяников совсем нет - на карте все серенькое. Там и без пожаров сейчас 40 градусов. Зато кондиционеров полно.
