Hello LJ,

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted anything of substance. It’s hard when your Internet time is at work and you can’t access most websites. Stupid firewall. Luckily Flickr is here to connect me with you.

Anyway, we just got back from our trip to D.C. We didn’t do much but go to a playground and hang out around the family house. Maurizio is definitely weighing more than 30 lbs these days, so the thought of taking him anywhere without a stroller hurts our backs. It was nice visiting with my family though. Merrick even drank some whiskey with my stepdad. Awesome! I really liked their new dog “Buddy” and Maurizio loved hugging on his furry coat.

In February we’ll be taking a long 5-day trip to El Paso. We get President’s day off and it coincides with my birthday/Valentine’s day so why not make a long weekend out of it? We haven’t been to El Paso in a loooooong time and Merrick’s dad has only seen Maurizio once (last year for my birthday in Austin) so we thought it would be a good time to go. Plus I am sure Merrick’s mom wants to show off Maurizio to her friends. I am excited at the prospect of getting some time off and having a date night with Merrick. Oh my gosh maybe we can go see a movie!

Merrick’s brother is getting married this year, and from what I can tell, it’ll be the weekend before our 5th wedding anniversary in October (lucky 13 years total). I am contemplating taking a whole week off work and maybe escaping to Marfa for a few days. I have always wanted to check it out and it’s not too far from El Paso. Maybe 5 hours? It’s too far away to really make concrete plans, but I always like to dream. ;)

Other than that, no big travel plans in the immediate future. I am hoping an old high school friend of mine will come visit me this spring since she can fly for free. I am also hoping some other friends come up to Chicago and visit this year. *hint hint*
