Anyway, we were hoping Maurizio would doze off and take a nap while we drove up there, but he was so interested as to where we were headed, he stayed awake the whole time. When we got to the orchard, there was a big festival in the front for the kiddies. Pony rides, petting zoo, hay mazes and other fun stuff. We let Maurizio feed the goats and he got a big kick out of it.
We headed to the apple orchard with a bag big enough to fit 1/2 a bushel, or about 40-50 apples. They had every variety you could think of, and of course our favorite HONEYCRISP! We rolled Maurizio through the orchard rows in a nice big wagon and let him jump out and help us pick apples. We ate a few apples while out in the orchard and enjoyed the fresh country air. We picked honeycrisp, ida red, golden delicious, jonathans and cortland apples. Some clouds started to roll in and we had some light sprinkles fall on us, so we headed back towards the entrance to the orchard.
Before we left we grabbed some fresh apples cider and a roasted corn on the cob. Strong rain showers hit us on the way home from Wisconsin, but nothing that held up traffic too bad. At least Maurizio finally snoozed on the way home. :)
Now I guess it's time to look up some recipes for apples!
