I am trying to decolonize my diet, but it's damned hard. I don't necessarily KNOW what all is indigenous to the Americas, and/or what recipes and meals to make. I'd really welcome all your recipes and snack ideas. Mainly, it'd be good to learn about substitute foods since the hardest part is breaking the established patterns.
There are a lot of foods that I am not allergic to perse, but they cause me to be tired, or ache, or give me stomach aches, etc. I think those foods include but are not limited to:
All meat except fish (but I am willing to give turkey a chance)
All grease and fats except for that in fish and nuts and fruits
Wheat and wheat products (this is one of the hardest to cut out of my diet)
artificial preservatives and sweeteners and sodas (pepsi, seven up, etc)
alcohol - beer gives me stomach aches, meads and champagnes give me headaches, and hard alcohols make my bones ache the days after drinking. I don't know if something like saki (made of rice) or corn beer might not get me sick. Can you think of any/many alcohols indigenous to the americas? Only things I can think of are tequila and corn beer.
I have slight hive reactions to most tropical fruits, especially those with high acid content like kiwis and pineapples.
So yeah.. with those restrictions in mind, I am trying to figure out what the heck to EAT.
