Midweek Check-In

So, fellow brigits_flame-ers ... how's it going with the prompt this week? I know a few people've gotten their entries done and are in the polishing stages. What's going on with the rest of you?

I've got mine pretty much planned, it's just a matter of actually writing it. If this turns out half as good as I'm imagining it, I'll be very happy. What's even ( Read more... )

Okay, seeing as the Chat got a little off topic (and then something happened to your internet connection...?) I'll post the menorah comments here.

I think the loathing comes through very clearly, especially if you sealed it off with the closing like you did. However, there IS concern regarding Silvana and unanswered questions: what is she? Why do the vampires have her? What are the markings on her?

Those questions there MIGHT cause this piece to read incomplete.

What you need to determine is this:

1. What's your current word count? If you're somewhere around 1300 words and think you can tack on the other scene in about 2500, then your entry probably won't be too long for week one.

2. Is there anyway you can better draw in the golem-made-with-fae-blood aspect other than the markings on her skin?

If the answer to both of these questions is no, then my suggestion would be to keep things the way they are and attempt a serial this month, maybe just a two-part serial even. You may not win week one, but I'm VERY confident you'll make it through to week two. And, between you and me, my ONLY goal ever for the first two weeks is to survive. Weeks three and four are where I stress about taking top marks.

Sooo... yeah. Those are my current thoughts right now about the piece. As is, you'll survive week one but you'll be left with questions needing answering, preferably in week two. If you expand further, you do run the risk of making it too long for a week one read, but the story will be completed and you'll be free to do something brand new for week two.

If you DO decide to serialize through week two at least, don't worry. I'll be right there to help manipulate the prompt into working for you.
