Damn those timezones and their thwarting abilities!

But you still responded, and that's the important part.

I didn't think it'd be too much to have the one maid there, but it MIGHT be tough if she was doing the cooking as well. Will have to consider adding a cook then to the mix. Instead of a houseboy, I've included a sort of doctor in training character who's irritatingly chipper and will end up being the assassin/thief. He'll be fairly new to the household so as to explain why he hasn't stumbled upon the doctor's research fully.

The doctor is NOT the marrying type of guy. At all. So, there won't be any wifely character here. I'm also thinking that the maid and assistant will double as the nursing aspect as well.

Oh, joy! I don't need to worry about corsets them. I was reading up some more on that, mostly the liberty corsets that were starting to become more popular around the 1900s (story is set in 1902), but if maids didn't have to bother with that then fabulous.

She's Irish, but she's been around long enough to adopt an English accent. She's a very practical woman who understands the prejudices -- hates them, but understands them. She is VERY careful about how she speaks in polite company.

And while she's not a literary genius, she did learn to read and has a great deal of common sense. She's not gonna be able to pick up a medical journal and understand it or anything, but she can handle a newspaper.

Azuire, it was more than vaguel helpful. it was VERY helpful. Thanks for the time!

"oh by the way, where does this doctor socialise, if at all? attitudes towards servants vary in different parts of the country/cities. in London, for example, a servant wouldn't dare look a guest in the eye or address them, even politely; however, in the country, the reverse was perfectly acceptable. Edwardian era had very fixed class allocations and social mobility was quite low."

Yeah, THIS I am very aware of and will be playing with when the necromancer enters into their lives. The necromancer is upper crust all the way, so the classist element will come into play a bit.

The doctor lives on Harley, which (as you probably already know) is the mecca for doctors in London. The practice was more or less inherited by him from his father, who was a VERY prominent figure in the community. There's a looooot of expectations for him, but he's proving to be quite a bit different than either of his parents. He was schooled in medicine, but in reality he's more scientist than that (he's got a secret lab for those things). He's also considered VERY eccentric, and pretty much the only social things he does is attend medical lectures or dinners at colleagues houses. The rest of the time is devoted entirely to his work.

The thing with him and the maid is that she's more aware of the social roles than he is, and the reason for that is because he just doesn't care. He's very blunt and ridiculously practical. If there's no logical, scientific, or medical reason for it to be done, then he's not going to do it. (Keep in mind the guy is a mad scientist, though most people don't recognize him as such due to his mostly hermetic lifestyle). SHE, however, has pretty much spent her entire life in service of some form or another and tries very hard to maintain a proper facade for the household in order to keep his real agenda from becoming discovered.

The location for his office/home is still debatable and MIGHT change to being more country, but right now my necromancer just burned down his master's house (with her and her zombies in it) on Gracechurch and realized only after he fled the scene that he'd left his travel money inside. So, right now he has no money, no daywear (he's wearing formal evening clothes), and has nowhere to go.

From what I could tell, Gracechurch is only about an hour walking from Harley (thank you, Google maps for that as well as pictures), so it's reasonably doable for him to make the trip. Otherwise, I'm gonna have to think of a way for him to get a coach out of London.

I suppose he COULD always whore himself for the money... hmm....
