Howdi

Howdi, folks, due to my complete lack of anything interesting to do, I thought Id offer you, to whom it may concern, my two cents as to what shows to see that are about at the moment.

1) Think Floyd - More than a witty title lies beneath the bonet of this tribute juggernaut. From somewhere in England these lads offer a splendid rendition of the classocs over a missively expansive set. A main highlight for me was hearing a complete rendition of "The Wall" especially as it contained all the music from the massive '80/'81 Floyd tour of the same name. The greatest of surprises of all was when they came to the end of this, after an hour and a half of concentrated playing, and I was somewhat disappointed that we were only going to experience one album, when they announced that they would take a short break, with obvious implications of them making a return after a short interval. The inspired choice to include the entire wall, for starters was indeed very impressive, however the set list for the second half was perhapos lacking in one or two alternative, more quircky options that one might expect from a truly appreciative set of musicians, for example any Animals, or even any Syd Barrett, eg saucerful or piper at the gates of dawn. The only slightly intriguing inclusion was that of "Cirrus Minor" one of my personal favourites, and so a great elation was fealt by those in the know when the opening vocal to this rare epic was accentuated. Neverthless, due to this, the rest of the second set was composed of the classics, which, of course, are, as well, great songs. The list was well put together as well, and thought out, with the obvious as well as the intruiging. Naturally WYWH was saved to the very end, the encore, infactt, but the finale was clevery composed, consisting of the sequence from Money all the way to the heartbeat at the end of Eclipse, which is probably the most reckognizable set of Floyd tunes to a newcomer.

In term of the show put on, it was nothing fabulous, however, these guys do not play particularly large venues and tickets were bout £12. They tour within the UK only, and are nothing like on the same scale as some of the major, worldwide tirbute bands like Beyond the Darkside, and The Australian Pink Floyd Show, see below. The amount of time onstage, however entirely surpasses any expectations considereing the ticket price, and these were well trained professional musicians doing their job with a smile on their face. Think Floyd will tour again soon, and they will definately be back, well worth the price.

2)The Surrogate Pink Floyd Show - This is a much smaller North Lanarkshire based floyd tribute who are currently not touring but after a recent preformance I can say that they would be quite competent playing the Pub circles in the Scottish regions at least just now. A well constructed show with a particularly sparkling set list, including such classics as Mother, Nobody Home, Pigs, Sheep, and even The Gunner's Dream. This small-time outfit does not have the hoards of equipment to entirely replicate the tines and sounds of the original, and so they added a slightly different vibe to some songs. For example Pigs contained a more modern edge to it, as Dave Gilmour's endless HiWatt sounds are particularly dificult to emulate. This worked fantastically, as it allows the audience to realize an alternatiive theme introduced originally by Waters and Gilmour, however never completely expanded.

My ticket cost me £7, even cheaper for students, and it was another long set, of whhich the second half opened with the entire DSOTM Outfit. And then finishing with classics such as WYWH, Numb, and, a la Floyd themselves Run Like Hell, to finish with. There were few surprises throughout the night as to what might come next, however I cant help thinking that this consolidates the tangible, invisible bond between all those in the room appreciating the same magic that they all know so well.

This was a steal at £8 anbd no doubt these guys will be onto the pub circuits soon enough so look out for them for a cheap night of classic nostalgia.

Details of the "Australian Pink FLoyd Show" will follow on the 5th May after their visit to the Clyde Auditorium
