ZZZAAAAP!

[Here, have footage of Lina jumping as she's shocked, fortunately not falling through the window she's looking out of.]

AAAGH! Stupid thing-! I guess some things just don't change, even with shiny new packaging! They could at least have it do something else useful if they're going to change it.

An airplane. A machine made by man to fly in the air. It works on the principles of certain physics.

... Physics that include or exclude magic?

That depends on what you're asking exactly. In the plane's instance? No. Do magic and physics share traits in common? Yes.

In the plane's instance, of course. Anyone who's even dabbled can tell you that magic's got physical rules and limitations - even if it doesn't seem that way half the time.

I'm more used to people not realizing this.

No, the plane does not use any magic in this case. It a creation by man using science and technology to produce flight.

You know amateurs or the completely unschooled in sorcery, then. Anyone who's ever tried to Levitate can at least grasp the issues of trying that with a heavy load.

But more to the point, these 'planes' sound pretty interesting. Technology on my world is nowhere near something like that. [Hee, she could do well for herself if she managed to learn something about that and take the ideas home...]

There aren't many of us where I'm from, not any more. Regular people don't know about magic.

They are pretty interesting. Much of technology was created by sorcerers; I'm sure if you think about it a bit you could figure it out.

That sounds infuriating - hiding magic sounds like such a pain! Sorcery is common where I'm from, though a sorcery genius like myself is a rarity. [Oh, give her half a chance and some texts she can decipher, and she's likely to figure out plenty.]

It's not so bad--until a Morganian decides to blow a crater in Russia the size of Rhode Island. Not too subtle.

... Morganian? And, uh, exactly how big is this Rhode Island place?

Evil sorcerers. Rhode Island is about 1200 square miles. [This makes his statement several thousand square miles over-exaggerated but hey, he's a cuckoo old sorcerer, sue him.]

That's pretty badass of them - if you're not exaggerating, that is.
