FONTS

So i've always been a bit of a typeface nutcase. knowing the difference between point and pitch is bad enough, but being able to tell someone that the credits of a movie are in Arial instead of the traditional Helvetica is going a little far...

I've come to the conclusion that I have 3 favorite fonts, each from the 3 major categories of fonts (although the first could include two parts)

fixed-width: Courier (NOT "courier new" its anemic crappy cousin)
serif: Garamond
sans-serif: Helvetica (helvetica neue is also acceptable, but less nice)

yeah there are sans-serif fixed-width fonts, but they are generally difficult to read for long periods of time, not to mention most are pretty gross to look at.

Times deserves an honorable mention simply due to the fact that it is such a universal font as far as current print use is. It's also the default for most word processors, which is probably why it's so universally used.

Truth be told i think Courier is more universal, being that it was on typewriters of the olden days. I personally love fixed-width fonts, though some people think that even the serif ones are hard to read for long periods of time. I can agree with that statement on the condition that the document is single spaced and either too large or too small. I feel that the most readable documents are Courier 12pt and double spaced. I love it.

You all now get to experience my journal in 10pt Courier (i know 12 is more traditional, but it's just too big on these journals) just because i finally got around to looking up the override for it :P

enjoy

oh yeah... anyone else have some favorite fonts?
