A sport I've never heard of. Found on that greasy sheet of informative paper that they put on the bottom of every McDonald's tray:
"Box-chess (Boxadrez) is a sport in which one boxes for two minutes and then switches to playing chess for four, in rapid alternation. Whoever knocks out or checkmates his opponent wins."
Due to unusually strong ninjitsu and a recent freak cold front, 1/3 of the hiragana alphabet has been memorized in three days. Japanese is fun, even if I still can't conjugate (or recognize) a verb.
I'd like to give a little something back, a hefty fraction of the not-so-much that I've learned. This is the only phrase you really need to know, anyway:
"Biru-o onegai shimasu."
"I want a beer."
Though many find this invaluable, as well:
"Kyoo-wa dono sakana-ga iki-ga ii desuka?"
"Which types of fish do you recommend today?"
Just tell this to the taxi driver at the airport, and you're set.
