[ You have just encountered another trap a highly androgynous elf. Wielding sword and shield and bow and arrow, no less.

What has Link been doing today? ... Oh, you know. Just archery practice, to get her mind off that weird broadcast earlier. She lowers her bow upon seeing Naoto, offering a polite smile. ]

I'm afraid all I have here are moments I can spare. How can I assist you?

[ ... Definitely got a medieval elf over here, yup. Down to the green tunic... ]

[A TRAP YOU SAY?]

Then I'll be brief. [he extends his hand. MANNERS.] I'm Detective Naoto Shirogane. I've only recently arrived and have been spending my time collecting information from some of the other residents to better understand the tower. Anything you can tell me about it would be appreciated. [He needs to cross-reference his cross-references after all. :|]

I see. I am Link, and I would be glad to answer what I can for you, though I am sorry you have been taken as well.

[ ... Link just tilts her head at the extended hand, entirely unaware of social customs. This is unfortunately also quite obvious when Naoto mentions being a detective.

Okay, she just has to ask what that is. ]

... I apologize, but... I have never heard of the title "detective".

[ Was it some sort of royal title? Like King or Princess? She has no idea. ]

[Oh Link. You have so much to learn. He withdraws his hand for now looking legitimately surprised that she has never heard the term. Her world must be very different from his own.]

A detective is member of the police force or a private investigator whose function is to obtain information and evidence to solve crimes and assist in bringing those who break the law to justice.

I find it curious that you've never heard the term before. Where are you from?

[ Oh! That makes sense, then. Link rather thought that Naoto wasn't dressed like royalty, anyway, but then, she didn't truly know much about the world to begin with, even her own. ]

You bring the evil to justice... then we are similar.

[ Sounds like an idea she can get behind, anyway. As for where she's from, well... there is a slight pause. She supposes it doesn't hurt to tell him. ]

If you mean my kingdom... I suppose that would be Hyrule, though my home is the Kokiri forest near it's border.

I see. I suppose it's safe to assume you have never heard of Japan?

[ Link shakes her head. An obvious no. ]

... Truthfully, it wasn't until recently that I even left where I had lived or knew of the outside world.

[ She looks thoughtful for a moment, but in no way does the fact she was raised by a giant, sentient tree sound odd to her, even in her mind. ]

We had always been told by the Great Deku Tree, our guardian, that leaving the woods would result in death...

Please forgive my ignorance, but this Great Deku Tree, what is it exactly? Is it a given title...? [or are you actually saying that it's a tree.]

I don't mind. I must admit I am... not used to answering questions, as my partner fairy usually makes it unnecessary, and does a better job.

[ Yes, Naoto, it is a tree. She pauses, feeling a bit awkward. Clearly this is just not her strong point, and the idea of talking to someone makes her uncomfortable, but... she is sure it will be okay? ]

... Though I was told I had parents at one point, my mother had to leave me in his care before she died. ... I'm not entirely sure how that would work for you humans, as I am Hylian by birth and Kokiri by raising, but no, it was not a title. He was the deity left by the Goddesses to take care of our forest. I... suppose for a lack of a better word, he would have been a tree, yes.

[hahaha Link, you are talking to the wrong person then. Naoto likes to ask all the questions and you have managed to pique his interest. Fairy? A guardian tree? It was all rather fascinating and Naoto appears to be (and he is) genuinely interested.

If Naoto had not had previous experience with people from other worlds -- ones so different from his own -- he would not be quite as accepting of all of this.]

A fairy partner? They exist in your world? For one unaccustomed to answering questions I would say you were handling this conversation very well.

[He's quiet for a moment as he considers this]

Deities do not manifest themselves in that way in my world and quite honestly we do not have an equivalent of what you are describing. If a child's parents pass away close family members can be granted custody or they may be adopted by another family altogether.

[ A pause. She's thinking... ]

Yes, they do. Is that... uncommon?

[ ... I'm so sorry Naoto this girl was raised in a place where no one had family or even knew what it meant. Would you like to explain what a family member is. ]

I apologize, but... I really have no idea what you mean by family. There is a lot I don't know about the outside world.

[ She heard "mother" and "father" from the Deku Tree Sprout, okay sure, but... ahahaha yeah she actually doesn't GET what it is. ]

Indeed it is. Fairies existed only in stories -- in children's fairytales and mythological accounts.

[... Enjoy your very textbook explanation, Link.]

Parents, one's mother and father, are what you would call family. Immediate family, specifically. Brothers and sisters, those born to the same pair of parents is also immediate family. Extended family would be aunts and uncles -- sisters and brothers of one's parents -- as well as cousins, which is the name given to their children.

There are, of course, grandparents as well -- the mother and father of one's own parents.

[ Link tilts her head curiously, listening to said explanation. When Naoto is done, she speaks. ]

... How strange. That seems like a lot to remember...

[ Not that she couldn't, but it's totally foreign to her. ]

Someone told me I was their "sworn Brother" once. ... I suppose that was what he meant.

[he nods]

I'm sure it was. In many ways family is a concept. One does not have to be related by blood to consider them family.

[ Huh. Interesting! ]

... You are very insightful as well as patient with me, Detective Naoto Shirogane.

[ ... Yup, full. Title. She doesn't know any better hahahaha. ]

I'm grateful. I only hope I can be of more assistance than this, unless you really want to know more about my experiences.
