Characters: Romeo and passers by Setting: Dormitory level Format: whatever Summary: Romeo doesn't like his job too much, and he doesn't feel too well Warnings:
Lillet had been making a faint attempt to explore the various accessible levels before she had to report to work - window cleaning, really? - and whilst she had a good enough memory to remember the layout as described by Ichi, it was only with the help of a carefully summoned elf that she was able to navigate her way around. Everything and everyone looked so strange, and that was something she never thought she'd have to say again. When she rounded a corner and saw a young boy curled up against the wall, it was almost a relief. Something she could do.
"Oh no!" It was a close thing as to who got there faster, her or the elf, "You're hurt. What happened?"
Romeo blinked in confusion as he saw the woman in the pointy hat, a woman who looked very much like a storybook witch apart from she was in purple not black, and a tiny creature that looked like an imp or an elf. He rubbed his eyes, he must have been more tired than he thought and fallen asleep.
But then she spoke, Romeo blinked again, "Did you come from a story book miss?" He asked, because maybe they had stolen people from stories as well, if all the worlds ever were destroyed.
"That's what they tell me-- oh, your wrist..." It wasn't exactly good conversation, mostly because she was occupied with infusing her elf with enough of her remaining mana reserves for a decent healing charm. The spell wasn't a subtle one either, a fountain or blues and greens, faerie lights and the smell of tulips all erupting from the air above the elf to whirl around Romeo. That done, she smiled at him, able to make eye contact now she was kneeling at his side. "I'm Lillet. Are you okay now?"
Romeo blinked, this was so strange, and then colours, lots of colours. Magic! Real life magic. "Wha..." He watched as the burn disapeared from his arm, and blinked up at the woman, "You're a real magic witch!" He looked at the elf his mouth wide.
"Thank you miss," he said quietly, not sure whether to be scared because this was a witch but she had helped him and now his arm wasn't hurting anymore.
"You're welcome." She settled back on her heels and adjusted her skirts, once she was sure he didn't have any other pains she could actually do something about. He reminded her so much of her little brothers it hurt. "How did that happen, anyway?"
Romeo warched the woman carefully, because she was a witch and had used magic and now she was acting like everything was normal. It was strange but the world had ended after all and Romeo was in this tower and so nothing was really strange after all.
"I spillt some of that stuff," he waved his hand to the bottles of chemicals, "And it burnt me miss," he looked at the elf again wondering if he really was just imagining things, "Can you talk?"
He's much too young to be allowed near alchemical mixtures was Lillet's first thought, followed by relief that she hadn't summoned something less polite. Elves were tricksters, but they loved to serve or help. And, true to form, this particular elf piped up.
Romeo's eyes widened and he smiled brightly, "You're amazing," he looked up to the woman and tilted his head slightly, "You must be a good witch right miss? Because you made my arm not hurt and a bad witch wouldn't do that..."
"What's your name?" It wasn't clear if he was talking to the witch or the elf.
She couldn't help the smile, he was so sweet that it made her problems seem so much further away. A nod was his answer to whether she was good or not; she wasn't entirely sure herself.
"Hello miss Lillet, Hello Riff," he peered at Riff and noticed that he did not have a collar, so maybe elves were like weasels and didn't need one to survive.
"Nope!" Riff seemed perfectly happy to field questions, "Mistress Lillet summoned me this morning."
Lillet belatedly realised that maybe this boy wasn't someone who knew about magic. Well, the damage was done now. "Hey, what's your name?" She asked, in an effort to distract him. A futile one.
"Summoned you?" Romeo tilted his head, he didn't think anyone could go out of the tower, "So are you from outside?" He waved his hand vagualy in the direction of the wall.
"He's from the Faerie realm... I guess that wasn't destroyed, or else I wouldn't be able to draw the rune at all." That was something to try later - were all the magical planes safe? Maybe that meant... Right, later. "Romeo. It's nice to meet you too!"
Romeo blinked, "I thought all the worlds were destroyed?" That was nice, if they wern't all destroyed, maybe if the faerie realm was safe then they could all go there and not have to stay in this tower any more.
"I haven't seen you before miss," he said looking between her and Riff.
"All of them?" Lillet hadn't heard that. She'd assumed only some of them had vanished, "That can't be right... I'm not sure you can destroy magical planes. And yes," she added, lamely, "I only got here this morning." My, but that was a familiar sentence. Hopefully she wouldn't have to say it again after today.
Romeo nodded but frowned slightly, "Well everyone here comes from different worlds that were destroyed, but... how many worlds are there in the first place?" Because before he had come here he had only thought there was one world.
"I've been here for ages," he said, because it felt like ages to him, in reality it had perhaps been a weak or two.
