Characters: Homura and YOU! Setting: Fourth floor. Format: Starting in prose, will change to whatever! Summary: The stress gets to her. Warnings: angst, spoilers, tl;dr
Romeo was once again on the fourth floor and he saw the girl and moved over curious. His face fell when he saw that she was crying, "What's wrong?" He asked drawing closer concerned.
It's a child. He's obviously younger than her, but not by much-- after all, Homura is (legally) only thirteen, though she's lived through at least an additional year.
She looks up at him, and shakes her head. Wiping her eyes, voice quiet and flat, "Nothing is wrong."
Romeo tilted his head, it was obvious that something was wrong, but that she didn't want to tell him, she wasn't too much older than him at all so he tilted his head. "Do you miss your home?"
She clenches her fists, bites her tongue and stays silent. Yes. In a way, she does miss home; she misses Madoka, the girl's easy smile, her kind voice. She thinks of how she may very well be dead for good, and knows that if she speaks, she won't be able to keep her voice level.
Romeo reached out to touch the girls arm, "I miss home too..." He said sadly, "But we're here now and we can't do anything about it so we have to keep our spirits up!"
She flinches away from the touch, but his hand does find her arm and she lets it stay there. Homura is no longer crying, and wipes her face. "Yes," she says quietly. "That is the problem. We are stuck here, all we know and love and find familiar destroyed before we even realize what has happened."
Romeo moved his hand away at the flinch and sat back bringing his knees up to his chest. "If the world was destroyed then everyone we love is dead, but I am sure they were all nice and kind people and so they will be in heaven," Romeo spoke with a surity, watching the girl intently, "They will be all together and heaven is a really nice safe place where everyone is happy, they can see us from there because they can see everywhere and so we have to be brave or they'll get sad!"
Naive child. He doesn't understand; of course he doesn't understand. No one could possibly understand how she's lost. She steels herself, lips pressing thin and fists clenching. She's silent for a while and just shakes her head.
Romeo blinked, once, twice, he was shocked because why would she say something like that! Of course heaven existed, because if not where did people go when they died. He trembled a bit watching the girl before he shook his head; heaven had to exist because thats where Alfredo was!
She thinks of the soul gems, the existence of magical girls and their miracles. There is no god, there is neither heaven nor hell; Homura's own existence, all she's been through... to her, that alone proves it. The emptiness of death is just that. Empty.
He doesn't understand that, and she does not want to explain it to him. So she just lowers her voice into a formal tone, steels her back and arms, and does not smile. "I apologize. Yes. It definitely exists."
Romeo frowned and blinked again, he felt bad for making her so tense, "You're just saying that, you don't believe it," he sighed, he didn't want to think about things like heaven not existing but he didn't want this girl to lie to him either. He looked down at his knees, rested his head on them and then jumped up as a squeak and a wriggle reminded him he had almost squished Piccolo.
"You're right," she says, and sighs just slightly. Though at the squeak and jump, she looks him over, curious; she doesn't question with her words, but with her eyes.
Romeo reached into his shirt and pulled a out the weasel, "Sorry," he said again stroking it's head, it wriggled his nose at him. "This is Piccolo my friend," he said and let the weasel move over to the girl and snuff at her hands.
Romeo knows she is sad and wants to help her get her spirits up so that she will feel happier again. Since everyone's worlds had ended and they were all stuck here they had to stick together, like Alfredo always said you were always stronger when you worked together.
"My names Romeo," he said with a friendly smile, "What's yours?"
