front flower garden project

took the truck down to Ralph's for an oil change this am. when I got back, started taking apart the japanese iris/hosta/sweet flag rock garden in front. the steps from when Judy had the pool, some old lumber, etc was an eyesore for a long time. we cut and stacked the old oak lumber for firewood and the bad stuff is for campfires.

Ugly First thing people would see when they came in the drive.

dug up all the plants except for some poppies. Moved a lot of the rocks into the little trailer. it is very low on the tires.

Dug up a lot of the invasive quack grass that has roots horizontally and travels a long way.

Pretty tired now.

Tomorrow bill has dr appt in am then I want to start bringing dirt from the pile and composted manure to raise the level to the same as the yard-a little above, cause it will settle.

then plan paths for flat stones, focal points-

big Buddha, the bowling ball i mosaiced many years ago, a directional metal thing and a metal thing on a 3' tall stand that is a sort of sundial-astrolabe? possibly a little 3' pond which I have a kit for and a river birch which has lovely peeling multi tone brown bark. and then replant the original plants, allowing for space between to spread.
