It's not like Romeo and Juliet - and Suki's grateful for that - but it still isn't ideal. Her brother's always asking questions and she hates it and she hates that he's here and she hates that she hates it because, well, he is family...but she can't stand the thought of what her family has done to this school. And she knows what they've done, what they've helped do, what they've helped destroy. Cornelius explained it to them all, and Suki hates that her name is associated with something like that.
Ian doesn't hate it - or, he says he doesn't. He says it gives them an in, a way to fight on even ground. Because Suki can get them in without being detected. She can trick Whisper because she knows how Whisper works.
And of course Suki agreed to do it. Not because it's Ian asking, not really, but because she hates that her family is so involved in this. Never mind the fact that she has to go back and play dutiful daughter - dutiful student, dutiful sister...it frustrates her and she hates it but she knows it's for the best.
And besides, she has her meetings with Ian. Those are what get her through the long weeks feeling so alone at the school. She feels so disconnected from everyone it's hard to keep up the pretense, but she knows if she doesn't she won't see Ian again so she keeps her head up and does what she has to and then...she gets to see Ian - and sometimes CJ and Gabe, but Ian says it's dangerous for all of them to come every time, so it's usually just him, never mind Cornelius and Connor insisting it's dangerous for him. He's Ian, he would never make anyone else do something he wasn't willing to do.
And that's why Suki loves him, and why she misses him so bad - though it helps that she knows he loves her, too, and he misses her, too.
And when she thinks once a month isn't enough, that once a month rolls around and it becomes enough because they both know it has to be.
