long time no write.

It has been such a long time since my last entry, and so much has happened, where do I start?

I went to Europe at the end of April, actually flew out of NZ on my birthday. I was supposed to spend two months away, but I received some horrible news from home and ended up returning on the 4th June - one month early.

One of my closest friends was killed in a car accident and his partner decided to let me know via text message. I was on a Contiki bus in Italy, on our way to Pompeii when I got the text. I was devastated, there is nowhere to go on a bus in Italian traffic.

On arrival in Pompeii ( I decided to skip the tour through the buried city) I called my mum to tell her what had happened, then sat down in a lovely little cafe and drank a bottle of wine.  Later that night I called mum again and told her I was coming home, so she decided I should know what else had been going on while I was away.

Before I left New Zealand, I moved in with my father and his partner of 2 years, it was agreed that I would live with them when I got back until I had found a job and paid some debts. It was also agreed that they look after my cat, Azrael, while I was away.  My cat was learning to get along with Kayla, the family dog that also lived with dad.

Well, Kayla had been put to sleep while I was away, apparently she bit someone.  And my father, had split up with his partner and was now living with Heather, the woman he was seeing 32 years ago - before he met my mother! So where was my cat? Azrael was living in Dad's empty house that had been put on the market. And me? I had nowhere to go. My mum lives in Picton, and dad had shacked up with Heather and her kids. It was all very strange.

I'm lucky Darren was there when I got home, he was my soft place to land. I moved in straight away and it has all worked out quite well considering all the odds were against it. Azrael now lives with us and Darren is dealing with his cat allergy quite well.

Getting from Sorrento, Italy back to New Zealand by myself was an adventure. I spent the night in an airport in Rome which was a new experience I can now add to the list of things I have done.

I have a new job, which I don't like but it's paying the bills - slowly.

I've had glandular fever, which isn't fun, so i've had a few days off work.

A lot of really bad things have happened this year, and it's all been a lot to deal with. I'm looking forward to when this year is over.

But Darren and I are happy, so that's the best thing to come out of this year. And it can only get better right?
