When I was a kid I lived for a few years in a rural area. If I wanted to be alone, all I had to do was go outside, where many acres of uninhabited nature awaited for me to commune with in private. I miss that. Now, when I need privacy, I have to go into my own tiny bedroom and shut the door. When I need to take the dogs out for a potty break there is, of course, our backyard, bordering a neighbor's house where said neighbor seems to need an outdoor cigarette break every time I go outside.
The scenario goes like this: I take the dogs to the backyard only to spy...our neighbor, again! So I have to arrange my face muscles in a smile and fake a "hi" and pretend to be relaxed when in fact I feel like my privacy is being invaded. The dogs also notice the stranger and proceed to go nuts with barking on that side of the fence. I sit in a lawn chair and endure this uncomfortable scene while the dogs are so distracted that they can't relieve themselves. It sucks.
